Why That? An Ecological Perspective Of Ell Teachers’ Professional Development, Brian C. Rose

Journal of Educational Research and Innovation

This article aims to identify the influences which affect the professional development choices of teachers who work with English language learners. Through a qualitative analysis of the experiences of four teachers in four different schools in two school districts, the professional development choices of these teachers are seen as a response to particular institutional forces. These influences mediate the teachers’ choices for professional learning and include concerns related to the classroom, the school site, the district, and the legislative arena.
