Literature Curriculum For Secondary Students With Varied Learning Styles, Marian L. Beaman Jan 1986

Literature Curriculum For Secondary Students With Varied Learning Styles, Marian L. Beaman

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Certain literary works in the secondary English curriculum no doubt adapt themselves more readily than others to teaching methods other than the traditional, verbal style of teaching. This study has sought to develop a literature curriculum incorporating the study of Julius Caesar for secondary English students which focuses on students' needs and interests, as described by their individual learning styles. Results of this study indicated that teachers of English will need to continue to modify the literature curriculum in order to address the learning styles of their students.

Aliteracy: The Relationship Between The Electronic Culture And Voluntary Reading, Geraldine H. Aschenbeck Jan 1986

Aliteracy: The Relationship Between The Electronic Culture And Voluntary Reading, Geraldine H. Aschenbeck

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Aliteracy, the term used to describe those who can read but choose not to do so, has become a grave concern in this country. A review of the literature indicates Americans are choosing to use their leisure time to interact with the electronic media to gather information instead of reading to gain knowledge. The skills of critical thinking and decision making are at stake. Schools and homes who have been successful in teaching the skill or reading must now instill the value of reading in order to preserve the democratic process upon which this country was founded.

The Relationship Of United States' Nationalism And Textbook Coverage Of Latin America, Stephen V. Piscitelli

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The review of related literature supported the value of curriculum with a global orientation and the importance of an objective understanding of the Latin American-United States relationship.
This study reviewed eight (8) world history textbooks. Seven (7) of the books were on the latest state adopted textbook list for Florida. One (1) text was currently in use in advanced World History classes in Duval County (Florida). The eight books were reviewed using a textbook evaluation …
