The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the intelligence quotients, as measured by the California Short-Form Test of Mental Maturity, Junior High Level, and the physical fitness ratings as measured by the physical fitness tests recommended by the President’s Council on Youth Fitness, of ninth grade boys in physical education classes at Carlsbad Mid-High School, Carlsbad New Mexico.

Leisure is embraced by all class levels. Whereas total leisure was once an indicator of aristocratic position, as it was in Athens during the Golden Age of Greece, or that of the bum who shirks social responsibility, leisure has become increasingly significant in all levels of social stratification. Though leisure is no longer an indicator of class position, the recreation activities in which people indulge during their leisure may exhibit lines of social stratification.

The purpose of this study was (1) to compare the scholastic achievements of athletes and non-athletes in various selected colleges, at the University of New Mexico; (2) to compare the scholastic achievements of the different varsity athletic teams; and (3) to compare the scholastic achievements of athletes in team sports with those in individual sports.

There is a general conjecture among elementary school teachers that friendships and social preferences in the lower elementary grade fluctuate considerably, and that they tend to become increasingly more stable in the higher elementary grades, sometimes to the detriment of a well-ordered child society. The physical fitness of the youth of the United States has been widely deplored in recent years. Kraus and Hirschland conducted a study which involved a comparison of the physical fitness of European children with the physical fitness of American children. Their study showed that 57.9% of the Americans tested failed the test as compared to only 8.7% of the Europeans. This discovery was one of the factors which prompted the creation of the President’s Council on Youth Fitness on September 6, 1956.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of pupil IQ and sex upon the number of some immediate verbal and nonverbal reinforcements given by the teacher to the students in the regular classroom. Studies have been done which indicate some differentiation on the bases of socio-economic status and behavior. This study determined, by actual classroom observation, what differentiation in reinforcements was found on the bases of (a) pupil IQ, (b) sex of pupils, (c) sex of teachers. The relationship between verbal and nonverbal reinforcements was also investigated.
