Developing A Multi-Platform Application To Facilitate Internal Campus Hiring, Carissa Patton
Computer Science and Computer Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
Undergraduate research has proven to be highly beneficial to students, yet there are many students who do not know how to get involved or who are too timid to approach professors to inquire about potential research opportunities. Our hypothesis is that a cross-platform application has the potential to bridge the gap and help more students get involved in undergraduate research by providing them information about open positions and the faculty or staff members who are mentoring the projects. The key focus of this thesis is to develop an application that provides details about participating faculty or staff including their research …
Monitoring The M-Dwarf Host Stars Of Tess Exoplanet Candidates: Stellar Flares And Habitability, Ashley Lieber
Monitoring The M-Dwarf Host Stars Of Tess Exoplanet Candidates: Stellar Flares And Habitability, Ashley Lieber
Physics Undergraduate Honors Theses
In the search for life beyond our solar system, the study of M-dwarfs has become increasingly important due to their unique characteristics including their small size, flaring capabilities, and long lifespans. Their small size allows for exoplanet detection due to observable gravitational interactions, and the stellar flares could potentially trigger prebiotic life on exoplanets in the system. Lastly, their long lifespans may provide the conditions necessary to foster prebiotic life and the development of more complex organisms over time. Flare rate is a critical factor in determining the habitability of the exoplanet due to its potential to damage or incubate …
Aberrant Responding With Underlying Dominance And Unfolding Response Processes: Examining Model Fit And Performance Of Person-Fit Statistics, Jennifer A. Reimers
Aberrant Responding With Underlying Dominance And Unfolding Response Processes: Examining Model Fit And Performance Of Person-Fit Statistics, Jennifer A. Reimers
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Researchers have recognized that respondents may not answer items in a way that accurately reflects their attitude or trait level being measured. The resulting response data that deviates from what would be expected has been shown to have significant effects on the psychometric properties of a scale and analytical results. However, many studies that have investigated the detection of aberrant data and its effects have done so using dominance item response theory (IRT) models. It is unknown whether the impacts of aberrant data and the methodology used to identify aberrant responding when using dominance IRT models apply similarly when scales …
Posterior Predictive Model Checking Of The Hierarchical Rater Model, Nnamdi Chika Ezike
Posterior Predictive Model Checking Of The Hierarchical Rater Model, Nnamdi Chika Ezike
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Fitting wrongly specified models to observed data may lead to invalid inferences about the model parameters of interest. The current study investigated the performance of the posterior predictive model checking (PPMC) approach in detecting model-data misfit of the hierarchical rater model (HRM). The HRM is a rater-mediated model that incorporates components of the polytomous item response theory (IRT) model, such as the partial credit model (PCM) and generalized partial credit model (GPCM), at the second level of the hierarchy, to model examinees’ responses to performance assessments. To date, the HRM has not been rigorously evaluated using PPMC techniques. Monte Carlo …
Justification For An Apparel-Based Sustainability Course At The University Of Arkansas, Sydney Taylor
Justification For An Apparel-Based Sustainability Course At The University Of Arkansas, Sydney Taylor
Apparel Merchandising and Product Development Undergraduate Honors Theses
The University of Arkansas' Apparel Merchandising and Product Development program does not currently offer a course on sustainability in the apparel and textile sector. Due to a lack of sustainability information, students may not have a thorough understanding of their degree. If students had the opportunity to learn about current sustainability-related topics before entering the workforce, they would have a new perspective and a deeper understanding of the industry, allowing them to potentially make good change.
By elaborating on the need for an apparel-based sustainability course to be offered at the University of Arkansas in the Apparel Merchandising and Product …

Seasonal Testicular Histology And Acystic Lobular Spermatogenesis In The Western Lesser Siren, Siren Intermedia Nettingi (Caudata: Sirenidae), Stanley E. Trauth
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
I investigated the seasonal testicular histology and acystic lobular spermatogenesis in the Western Lesser Siren, Siren intermedia nettingi, from periodic sampling of this salamander over a span of 21 yr (1994-2015) in northeastern Arkansas. My results include the following general findings: 1) the largest testicular lobules occurred primarily in January-February during spermiogenesis and spermatozoa maturation; 2) lobular regression and spermatogenic cell recrudescence were underway by late March; 3) proliferation of secondary spermatogonia in lobules was prominent in May; 4) transformation of secondary spermatogonia into primary spermatocytes occurred by mid-July, and these cells became larger in diameter through increased nuclear …

Distal Urogenital Anatomy In The Male Wood Frog, Lithobates Sylvaticus (Anura: Ranidae), Stanley E. Trauth
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
I investigated the microanatomy of the distal urogenital system of the male Wood Frog (Lithobates sylvaticus) from a small sample (n = 6) collected in northern Arkansas in February 2020. Specifically, my primary objectives were as follows: 1) to focus on the histology of the paired Wolffian (urogenital) ducts caudally from the kidneys to their merging with the urodeum of the cloaca, 2) to reveal the structure of the paired seminal vesicles (sperm storage structures), and 3) to compare epithelial morphologies between the distal urogenital tract and its neighboring distal alimentary tract. This information will promote a clearer …

Data And Assessment Management In Collegiate Recreation, Jeana Carow
Data And Assessment Management In Collegiate Recreation, Jeana Carow
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Collegiate recreation programs and centers typically provide traditional programming space in addition to a range of physical activity spaces and resources, as a valuable part of the student experience. The external pressures of identifying and communicating departmental value and impact on the campus community has resulted in collegiate recreation departments’ use of data to communicate the effectiveness and impact of their work. The purpose of the study was to identify the data collection and assessment management practices of collegiate recreation departments, particularly focusing on the organization of data and assessment strategies as well as data collection, storage, reporting, analyzing, and …
Development Of An Effect Size To Classify The Magnitude Of Dif In Dichotomous And Polytomous Items, James D. Weese
Development Of An Effect Size To Classify The Magnitude Of Dif In Dichotomous And Polytomous Items, James D. Weese
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
A standardized effect size for the SIBTEST/POLYSIBTEST procedure is proposed, allowing for Differential Item Functioning (DIF) to be classified with a single set of DIF heuristics regardless of whether data are dichotomous or polytomous. This proposed standardized effect size accounts for both variability in responses and whether participants are included in the SIBTEST/POLYSIBTEST calculations. First, a new set of unstandardized effect size heuristics are established for dichotomous data that are more aligned with Educational Testing Service (ETS) standards using two and three parameter logistic (2PL and 3PL) models. Second, a standardized effect size is proposed and compared to other DIF …

Computer Science Teacher Survey, Josh B. Mcgee, Sarah C. Mckenzie
Arkansas Education Reports
In April/May of 2020, the University of Arkansas’ Office for Education Policy (OEP), in partnership with Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson's Computer Science and Cyber Security Task Force, fielded a survey with the 400+ Arkansas educators who at that time held a computer science endorsement (528), computer science approval code (5016), or computer science technical permit (5014) on their educator’s license. The survey received 153 responses, a nearly 40 percent response rate.
Design Of A Shallow-Aero Ebb And Flow Hydroponics System And Associated Educational Module For Tri Cycle Farms, Julie Halveland
Design Of A Shallow-Aero Ebb And Flow Hydroponics System And Associated Educational Module For Tri Cycle Farms, Julie Halveland
Biological and Agricultural Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
Tri Cycle Farms, whose main mission is to reduce food insecurity in their community, is a non- profit urban farm in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The “Tri” in their name refers to the three parts of their foundation: giving a third of their yield to volunteers, giving a third to local food pantries, and selling a third to sustain the farm and demonstrate the economy of local food production. They want to expand on the third part and have a vision of building a hydroponic greenhouse with the intention that it will create more crops to sell and give, as well as …

Arkansas' Coding For All - Is It Really Reaching All Students?, Kaitlin Mckenzie
Computer Science and Computer Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
The Arkansas Computer Science Initiative required every high school to offer at least one computer science course by the 2015-16 academic year. Schools that did not have a qualified teacher were given access to online courses. It is important to point out that students do not need a computer science course to graduate, but credit in a computer science course could replace a 3rd science credit requirement or a 4th math credit requirement (ADE / ARCareerED Computer Science Fact Sheet). Some initial success has already been demonstrated. In 2014- 15 there were sixty computer science classes offered in all of …
