The Relationship Between Chronic Pain And Stress, Anxiety, And Depression In College Students Oct 2022

The Relationship Between Chronic Pain And Stress, Anxiety, And Depression In College Students

Journal of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Research

The purpose of this study was to measure chronic pain levels as they relate to stress, anxiety, and depression in college students. This is a non-experimental, correlational research design, using a survey methodology. Eighty-four participants, over the age of 18, were recruited (men = 33.3%, women = 66.6%) to participate in this study. The participants were asked to complete a questionnaire which was a compilation of the Chronic Pain Grade Questionnaire (CPGQ) (Von Korff et al., 1992), the Perceived Stress Scale (Wickrama et al., 2013), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) (Beck et al., 1988), the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) (Beck …

Influence Of Racism On Minority Students' Mental Health And Academic Performance Oct 2022

Influence Of Racism On Minority Students' Mental Health And Academic Performance

Journal of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Research

This literature review summarizes, analyzes, and evaluates a selection of 15 recent research articles regarding the influence racism has on minority students’ mental health and academic performance. All the literature used here was published between the years 2010 and 2021. Of the studies contained in this work, the majority addressed the topic of racism and how it influences student mental health, with an emphasis on minority stress and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or trauma symptoms. Another portion looked at how racism influences academic performance. The literature shows that higher exposure to racism produces negative mental health, which can manifest …

Impact Of Religion And Politics On Pro-Environmental Behavior And Views About Climate Change

Journal of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Research

The purpose of this study was to analyze how religion and politics impact peoples’ opinions about climate change and likeliness to engage in pro-environmental behavior. The study conducted was a non-experimental, correlational research design, using a survey methodology. Fifty-eight participants, all over the age of 18, were recruited to participate in this study. The participants were asked to complete five questionnaires: The Centrality of Religiosity Scale (CRS) (Huber & Huber, 2012), The Climate Change Attitude Survey (CCAS) (Christensen & Knezek, 2015), The Political Participation Scale (PPS), The Environmental Behavior Scale (EBS), and a demographic questionnaire. Two research hypotheses guided this …

Development Of A Method For Evaluating Absorption Spectra Irregularities: 3-Methylcyclopentanol And 4-Methylcyclohexanol Oct 2022

Development Of A Method For Evaluating Absorption Spectra Irregularities: 3-Methylcyclopentanol And 4-Methylcyclohexanol

Journal of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Research

Accurate rate constant values are critical for understanding chemical reaction pathways involving cyclopentenyl and cyclohexenyl cation intermediates. One approach for determining this essential kinetic information follows the time rate of change of such cations using UV-visible spectrophotometry. However, the obtained absorption spectra often show asymmetric irregularities such as shoulders due to interfering side reactions. The aim of this exploratory study was to develop a method of interpreting UV-visible spectra that provides accurate rate constant values in addition to clarifying the cause of signal abnormalities. In this investigation, changes in spectra of the cation intermediates were followed over the course of …

The Impact Of Political Beliefs On Ethical Framework In Adults Oct 2022

The Impact Of Political Beliefs On Ethical Framework In Adults

Journal of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Research

This study aimed to examine the differences between major political philosophies in the United States and whether these beliefs influence a person’s ethical views. This research was a non-experimental correlation design, using a survey methodology with adult participants. The participants were asked to complete the 39-item The Impact of Political Beliefs on Ethical Frameworks in Adults Survey. A Pearson’s r was conducted to determine the relationship between political beliefs and ethical frameworks. The results showed a slightly positive correlation that was statistically significant [r(166) = .28, p = .000]. Therefore, there was sufficient evidence to support the research hypothesis: there …
