Correcting students’ errors is necessary for improving their linguistic and communicative competence. This study seeks to examine students’ and teachers’ perceptions about error correction in the L2 classroom. An online survey was designed and sent out to a purposive sample. The sample consists of 12 students from the University of Guyana’s Modern Language Programme, who are pursuing a career in Spanish, French and Portuguese (with B1 and C1 language levels), and 9 teachers (7 current/2 former) from the Programme who specialise in teaching these different languages. The results of the survey are analysed and discussed through a mixed method approach, …

The University of Guyana, up to the present time, continues to embrace a traditional learning and teaching approach, in its educational practices. Face to face contact is the principal mode of instructional delivery. Further to this, the conventional Distance Education, via the print-based correspondence mode, is still the current trend. Such a method only favours but a handful of students. As has been revealed by research, such an approach, even if it might engage students, is still teacher-directed and rejects an emancipative, student-centred approach to learning. Elearning, however, seems to be gaining momentum as the instructional delivery mode, in many …

Since elearning seems to be the catalyst to promote revolutionary instructional practices, the University of Guyana, still largely adopting …

In this modern era, the traditional approach to learning and teaching, which may engage students, does not lend itself to diversity. Since this approach is viewed as a barrier to significant learning experiences, teachers, educators, and other stakeholders have been calling for improved pedagogical practices in educational institutions. Since the dawn of technology, the continued use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has created the path for elearning. Elearning facilitates the learning-teaching process with an array of channels and technologies, and has the potential to revolutionise instructional practices in educational institutions in both developed and developing countries, including the University …
