The goal of this research was to determine how teachers most effectively produce engaged, self-motivated readers. The answer to this question was determined by preliminary research and survey results from 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grade teachers. Based on the findings of the preliminary research, the following hypothesis was formed:

This Honors Capstone Project created the opportunity to create a children’s church curriculum influenced by the ideas of family ministry. The paper includes an introduction to the writer’s vision and goals, a review of literature focused on what family ministry is and why it is important, a description of the curriculum project, and the creator’s reflection on the project. For decades, there has been a stigma attached to those with Down syndrome and their families. Society has seen individuals with Down syndrome as people who are incapable of contributing to society, imposing a lifelong burden on their families. Though this mentality has changed in the last forty years, it has not been completely eradicated. Thus, this research seeks to bring awareness and understanding through the writing of children’s literature about Down syndrome.
