This research study examined the challenges and issues faced by LGBTQ students attending a tertiary education institution in The Bahamas. Utilizing a phenomenological analytical process, seven individuals gave information regarding their lived experiences in a tertiary institution in The Bahamas. Data for this research study were collected through two 60-minute in-depth interview sessions. This qualitative study was guided by the theoretical frameworks of the planned approach to change and the theory of resilience, both of which were used to inform the elements of the research. Worked with faculty advisors to develop activities and assignments within the OTD 8271: Interventions 1: Psychosocial and Community course for students to guide their interactions with children volunteers from A Kid’s Place (AKP). The pre-existing relationship with AKP allowed for the incorporation of hands-on activities to increase the excellence of education, confidence in clinical skills, and quality of practitioners entering the field.

The intended purpose of this applied dissertation was to examine how teachers use student-owned technology devices for learning in the classroom and to determine how the use of these devices influence teacher planning and the classroom environment. The Bring Your Own Device initiative was an effort to prepare students by allowing them to use and leverage technology devices in the classroom to advance and enhance their learning (Greer, 2013). This capstone project was completed in the Occupational Therapy Doctoral (OTD) program at Nova Southeastern University, Tampa, Florida. The capstone experience focused on academia. The final culminating project presents a general overviewed of the planning of the capstone project experience. Two courses that were impacted during my capstone project were OTD8262-Research Design/ Quantitative and OTD-8263 Research Project Implementation. The final project was a Pediatric Skills Camp targeting area that needed improvement to ensure success in level two fieldwork experience. All projects implemented during the capstone experience were completed and students benefit from the materials and learning opportunities provided.

The problem that will be explored within this research is that many African American students lack the opportunity to be taught by African American teachers. Research shows that students taught by teachers with whom they identify as having similar or the same experiences may result in meaningful learning for the student. Given, African American teachers represent only 18% of all teachers, there is not an abundance of African American teachers within the school system to serve as role models for African American students.

While attitudes are difficult to assess, a qualitative research study can produce results to give insight into how a student feels a writing center has improved his or her confidence and attitude towards writing. This study reviews the minimal discussion of students‟ attitudes towards writing in past and current writing center research and builds upon the conversation by following three students‟ journeys in the writing center and discussing whether their experiences with the tutors has improved their attitudes about writing.

The program involved the development of materials for the instruction and testing of geography related performance standards to the American History curriculum. The program’s aim were twofold: 1) to assist the teacher in that materials were not available and 2) to address the problem of low achievement of the students in their basic geographical knowledge and its application to American History. The problems addressed by this practicum were identified by both teacher questionnaire and student pre-tests. Improving Spelling Performance Of Sixth Grade Students Using Eclectic Spelling Strategies And A Cognitive-Based Approach, Marilyn L. Frieling

The poor spelling performance of a group of sixth graders was addressed by utilizing the Informal Spelling Inventory suggested by Mann and Suiter (1974). This criterion – referenced test determined that nine members of the sixth grade class scored well below grade level expectations in spelling. A cognitive – based approach and eclectic spelling strategies were implemented with the target group in order to improve their spelling achievement. The results indicated a cognitive-based approach through phonetic instruction and rule generalizations increased levels of achievement in the target group. The program's aims were to help the child to follow one, two, and three step oral directions given by a teacher which is considered a minimum competency for entrance into the district's kindergarten reading program. The writer applied an increased frequency of general music instruction given to a target group of kindergarten children in order to measure its impact on auditory memory sequencing skills. A control group received the general music instruction on a less frequent basis. The writer, a music teacher specialist, theorized that skills learned in the music class setting would transfer to other (academic) classroom settings, as measured by a standardized testing instrument and a classroom teacher survey checklist. The author created and implemented a computer assisted instruction (CAI) program to remediate juniors in skill H68, dealiug with direct address. This skill is found on the State Student Assessment Test, Part I. The program's aims were to increase student achievement, alleviate the problems of management, improve student attitude, and teach basic computer literacy to below average students. The program consisted of two lessons, each dealing with one component of the skill of using the comma to set off proper names in direct address. This practicum report focuses on an enrichment strategy designed and implemented by the author to increase the vocabulary of accelerated fourth grade students. There were two criteria to be met by members of the target selection. First, they had to excel in language arts as indicated by superior test scores on the county reading test. Secondly, each participant had language arts grades of excellent status as evaluated by the previous instructor.
