Adapted Art Curriculum: A Guide For Teachers Of Students With Disabilities, Genevieve Yoder

Graduate Education Student Scholarship

Due to the changes in the educational system since the 1997 Individuals with Disabilities Act, few resources have been created to assist art teachers in adapting curriculum and art tools for students with disabilities. This research project explores studies in art and disabilities, as well as curriculum adaptations. The literature review offers an extensive view at current literature on four major themes: a need for curriculum, general education curriculum adaptations, adapted arts curriculum, and the impact of arts education in the lives of people with disabilities. Exploration Of Positive Teacher-Student Relationships In The Online Context Of Vipkid, Elise R. Mcclelland

Graduate Education Student Scholarship

In this paper, I explore how VIPKid teachers build positive relationships with students in their unique online context. I began by establishing the need, importance, and nature of positive teacher-student relationships. I included the results of a survey given to 36 VIPKid teachers in order to better understand the perspective of these teachers on positive relationships with students, what barriers these teachers face in building relationships, and what techniques they employ to build relationships. I found that the results imply that in order to build better relationships with students, VIPKid teachers must communicate care for their students despite barriers they …

This criterion-based study was conducted on research of an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis, the different severity levels now included in the DSM5, and evidence-based accommodations that allow students with autism to have a successful educational experience, in order to create Parent Guidelines: Informed Conversations at the IEP Table. The accommodations found were categorized into four areas that address common deficits for students with autism: behavior, social-communication, academic, and sensory. The information was gathered and presented in a guide for parents …

English Learners’ Perspectives Of Teaching Methodologies In Community College Eap Classes, Lisa Walker

Graduate Education Student Scholarship

Community colleges provide a popular pathway for many English Language Learners (ELLs). Unfortunately, many of them struggle to pass through the multiple levels of non-credit bearing developmental course sequences in order to improve their academic use of English and thrive in post-secondary work. A qualitative look at perspectives of these English Learners on methodology may provide insight to ways that teachers could modify instruction to meet the diverse needs of students within community college English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses. Findings suggest that more explicit teaching about language acquisition and the research-based methodologies that support it along with more consistent …

Implementing Student-Centered Accommodations In Mathematics, Stephanie Grosko

Graduate Education Student Scholarship

This project explores the necessary need to create and implement accommodations for low achieving learners and high achieving learners in mathematics, specifically addition and subtraction at the kindergarten level. Currently, there are no accommodations provided in the mathematic curriculum to support these groups of students and ensure they continue to succeed and grow. Research data was collected and analyzed to determine the types of accommodations that are most beneficial to these two groups of learners. Through the research findings, accommodations were discovered and included in the final project to create a student-centered learning environment called the Rainforest Math Cove. The …
