The purpose of this study was to determine the reading interests of middle school students ranging in age from 10 to 14 years. The middle school has grown tremendously in acceptance since its beginnings in the 1960's. Years of study, careful planning, and evaluation using pilot schools preceded the success of this new grouping of students, usually consisting of grades six, seven, and eight. The establishment of a kindergarten for gifted children on the campus of Lindenwood College, St. Charles, Missouri, created the need for a curriculum designed to meet the special strengths and weaknesses of those who would attend.

While these children often possessed advanced skills in reading and math, they were still five-year-olds with certain emotional, social and physical limitations due to their young age.

Public schools are mandated by law to include handicapped persons in their educational programs. The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate the operational and recall ability of second grade children, after instruction and the use of manipulative aids , to understand the multiplication of three. Multiplication of numbers at the early stages, in most mathematics programs, provides for rote memorization and drill instead of concept understanding. Most practices and drills require only answers to the facts, which provide little indication that a student can explain or show how that answer was obtained. This descriptive study of effective clinical instruction surveyed students and faculty in six St. Louis area diploma nursing schools. While many studies have been done attempting to define and evaluate effective teaming, it has only been recently that researchers have begun to explore the effectiveness of clinical education.
