Faculty and librarian collaboration is key in the quest for information literacy. As part of the reaccreditation effort at Lord Fairfax Community College -- a two-year institution in northwestern Virginia -- the QEP Leadership Team sought LFCC Librarians’ assistance in a multifaceted, 5-year, information literacy initiative. This effort included the addition of a librarian to the all-faculty QEP Leadership Team, the redesign of composition courses, and professional development through a new LFCC program: “Seeking the Truth: Faculty-Librarian Collaboration Mini-Grants.”

Data obtained from the mini-grant program show that LFCC faculty engaged in this multifaceted initiative gained an appreciation for collaboration with …

When Spartanburg Community College was looking for a new QEP (Quality Enhancement Plan) for their reaccreditation, the SCC Library saw a great opportunity to widen our faculty collaborations across the curriculum. The Library wrote the proposal that eventually became the College’s new QEP and worked with a diverse team to develop a college-wide information literacy program entitled WIn: Working Information.

Now in its second year, this five-year program aims to make information literacy part of the institutional culture by having faculty work with librarians to infuse information literacy skills and assignments throughout their curriculum.

Goals and Objectives: Our institution, Georgia Southern University, has selected a Quality Enhanced Plan (QEP) focusing on fostering effective student writing and associated thinking skills across all college and in the disciplines. In addition to the 1st Student Learning Outcome (SLO) of demonstrating argumentation, analysis, and synthesis skills through writing, the 2nd SLO in our QEP highlights students’ engagement in process writing. In this presentation, we will describe how the qualitative technique, along with the quantitative method, have been used to capture students’ engagement in process writing through a pre-post design.
