Silent Reading Before Oral Reading On The Iri: Implication For Diagnosis And Instruction, Catherine P. Benedetti

The purpose of this study was to test the effect of silent pre-reading on the number of oral reading errors a student makes on an IRI. Twenty children read passages silently and then orally read passages without pre-reading. The results supported the null hypothesis that there would be no statistically significant difference on oral reading performances for disabled second and fourth graders. Implications for diagnosis and instruction are discussed.

If a clear-cut relationship between weather phenomena and human behavior could be established, the case for controlled atmosphere in industry, commerce, and education would be strengthened. In the area of education, classroom procedures and learning tasks could be varied in accordance with the weather. This dimension could provide for insights into misbehavior and might enable school personnel to deal with such misbehavior more effectively.

The study was made in an effort to tabulate all of the phonics and structural analysis skills presented in the SRA Reading Laboratory IIIa as to the various kinds offered; frequency of use; methods of presentation. Also, extensive research was attempted to ascertain leading reading authorities' opinions on the use of these analyses for secondary students. The purpose of the study was to determine whether the SRA Reading Laboratory IIIa would be the best material to use for the retarded and disabled readers at the secondary level.
