Reading is a skill necessary for social, academic, and economic achievement in our society. Research shows that minority children, such as American Indians, often struggle to become successful readers. It is necessary to understand causes that may contribute to the difficulties that American Indians have with effective acquisition of literacy skills. This presentation for educators of American Indian students will present information that will increase educators' knowledge of American Indian culture, and the culture of the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation.
