This paper offers a description of how ePortfolios can be used in world language learning programs--specifically Arabic-- not only to assess the success of the program but also to provide students with a platform for reflection, self regulation and self assessment. ePortfolios allow students to set and review their goals, engage with and reflect upon their learning as they document and track the progress of their language proficiency and intercultural competence starting from first year courses and ending with a capstone Signature Work project.

Higher education, specifically the California community colleges, is being inundated with a large new generation of students called millennials. They are the majority student group enrolled in record numbers at California Community Colleges. California community colleges continue to evolve in order to accommodate millennial generation college students. A phenomenological design was utilized, using face-to-face interviews. This research explores the phenomenon of “millennial college students (millennials)” through the lived experiences of California community college counseling faculty who interact with them. Their observations and experiences could prove to be informative and help advance the purpose of this research.

This is a sample of ACUE (Association of Colleges and University Educators) implantation and reflection assignments. The Teaching Resource Center partnered with ACUE; then, 30 CSUSB faculty completed 25 instructional modules. These assignments focused on teaching practices and face-to-face instruction.

CSUSB Communication Studies instructor, Sabrina Roberts, participated in the ACUE Effective College Instruction certification program from January 2019 to June 2019 in cohort A. The sample assignments include reflections from the following modules: Motivating Students, Delivering an Effective Lecture, Planning Effective Class Discussions, Facilitating Engaging Class Discussions and Using Advanced Questioning Techniques.

Many low-income, first-generation college students have no other choice but to work to help offset the costs associated with earning a college degree (Savoca, 2016). Meanwhile, colleges and universities have the opportunity to leverage on-campus employment as a high-impact practice (McClellan, Creager, & Savoca, 2018). High-impact practices (HIPs) are known to increase retention, persistence, and completion (Kuh, 2008). If structured with intentionality and purpose, on-campus jobs can offer low-income, first-generation college students the opportunity to participate in a HIP, while simultaneously earning an income (McClellan et al., 2018).

Despite the importance of community colleges in higher education, community college faculty are understudied. Although the community college has been defined as a teaching institution, its faculty also serve in non-teaching leadership roles. The purpose of this research study is to know (1) what the experiences of community college faculty in leadership roles are, (2) how their roles have changed over time, (3) what factors motivated faculty to accept non-teaching roles, and (4) how faculty have navigated the transition. I have revised my syllabus to integrate PBL into my course, Science/Health Curriculum and Pedagogy in Elementary School (EELB 532), for this current term. I am teaching this course for the third year at the Palm Desert campus. Throughout my career as an instructor in teacher education, I have promoted PBL to my science methods students; however, this term is the first time I have integrated PBL into my course by making it a major course assignment.
