Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) struggle academically and appear to have lower levels of academic motivation than their peers. This paper reviews the literature and evidence proving that lower academic motivation is associated with ADHD. The causes of the motivational deficits are both behavioral and explained by neurological differences in the brain. Research shows that children with ADHD lack the ability to inhibit their own reactionary behaviors and allow for executive functions to consider all the information available to make good decisions. In addition, children with ADHD have a strong preference for immediate rewards over waiting for long-term rewards. Behaviorally, …

The Arabic language is one of the significant world languages; it is the official language of 21 countries. Taha (2007) indicated that 84.5% of international students and American students felt that learning Arabic was an asset because of the linguistic and cultural aspects. Arabic as a second language does not reach the same level of popularity as other world languages (Ryding, 2013). Motivation is a hot topic in education. It is not uncommon for many students give up when challenges arise, while others rise to the occasion to overcome challenges. These strategies focus primarily on two different areas: fostering autonomy and intrinsic motivation in the classroom and teaching self-regulation strategies for overcoming challenges.

Recent studies have shown the predictive nature of mindset and motivation. Students tend to have one of two mindsets: a growth mindset or a fixed mindset (Dweck, 2000). Those with a growth mindset believe that their knowledge can increase and they are able to continuously improve. Students with a fixed mindset believe that their intelligence was bestowed upon them, and that they cannot really change how smart they can become. This study examined the perceptions of middle school students about their mindsets and explored the question of where they think their mindset originates. Nearly 500 students were surveyed to determine …
