The Curriculum, Instruction, And Assessment Of Dispositions In Preservice Teacher Education, Andrea Marie Baldwin Jan 2007

The Curriculum, Instruction, And Assessment Of Dispositions In Preservice Teacher Education, Andrea Marie Baldwin

Dissertations

Problem. In 2000, NCATE included dispositions in its professional standards as a requirement for teacher education units seeking (re)accreditation with its organization. The problem of this investigation was to examine how program directors, faculty, and preservice teacher candidates in three selected preservice teacher education programs in Indiana and Michigan were responding to this NCATE mandate.

Purpose. The purpose was to explore the ways in which and to what extent dispositionswere included in the curriculum, taught, and assessed in programs, both religiously affiliated and public.

Methodology. A mixed-methods approach was used to collect and analyze data. Three levels of participants were …

A Descriptive Case Study : The Implementation Of A Field-Based Master's Program, Jeanne Renita Grant Jan 2002

A Descriptive Case Study : The Implementation Of A Field-Based Master's Program, Jeanne Renita Grant

Dissertations

Purpose of study. This study focuses on the implementation of the Field-based Master's Program at Midwestern Christian University. The three-step Adoption Change Model (Fullan, 1991) guided me through this innovation: (1) adoption, (2) implementation, and (3) institutionalization of the program. This 2-year study describes the program's adoption and implementation stages. Institutionalization was not included as it takes 3-10 years to occur. Three research questions guided this study.

Research questions. (1) What did the teacher training in the uses of processes look like during the initial summer session of the Field-based Master's Program? (2) What did the transfer of training …

A Case Study Of Selected Preservice Teachers Regarding The Origins Of Their Perspectives On The Commonplaces Of Education And The Impact Of Foundations Studies On Those Perspectives, Charles D. Scarbrough Jan 1994

A Case Study Of Selected Preservice Teachers Regarding The Origins Of Their Perspectives On The Commonplaces Of Education And The Impact Of Foundations Studies On Those Perspectives, Charles D. Scarbrough

Dissertations

Problem. Many educational foundations scholars claim that teacher education programs focus on the how of instruction (student teaching and methods courses) instead of the why of education (foundations studies), and that preservice teachers’ pre-college perspectives about education are not questionned or challenged. Their programs’ foundations studies have made little or no impact on preservice teachers.

Method. An interview-based case study methodology was employed and Schwab’s (1978) concept of the four "commonplaces" of education (teacher, student, curriculum, and context) was used to categorize questions about the meaning and purpose of education. Nine interviewees were selected from among students in two teacher …

Descriptive Case Studies Of Training, Research And Development In Computers And Related Instructional Technologies For Teachers At Three Ncate Universities, Anne L. Chandler

Dissertations

Two areas related to the study, (1) graduate-level instruction in computers and related instructional technologies and (2) research and development in the area of computers in instruction, were also surveyed, with the intent of exploring their relationship to the training of preservice teachers and their influence on instruction in general.

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to describe training, research, and development in computers and related instructional technologies at three NCATE universities which were identified as doing a good job of …

Hispanic Student Teachers' Practice Teaching In Cooperative Learning: Two Qualitative Case Studies, Myrna Colon Jan 1992

Hispanic Student Teachers' Practice Teaching In Cooperative Learning: Two Qualitative Case Studies, Myrna Colon

Dissertations

Purpose: A qualitative case study designed to look at two student teachers' practice teaching experiences using cooperative learning was undertaken during the 1990-1991 academic year. The purpose of the study was to gain insight into student teachers' perceptions in translating theory into practice. Joyce's training model of theory, demonstration, and practice with feedback was utilized to train student teachers in cooperative learning in the college and school setting.

The researcher was guided by four major questions: (1) What happens to the cooperative learning model when student teachers practice it in the school setting? (2) What happens to student teachers as …

An Investigation Of Predictors Of Success In Elementary Student Teaching In Selected Seventh-Day Adventist Colleges, J. Roger Couty Jan 1984

An Investigation Of Predictors Of Success In Elementary Student Teaching In Selected Seventh-Day Adventist Colleges, J. Roger Couty

Dissertations

Problem. Investigations of predictors of student teaching success have yielded contradictory results in general. Besides, reports of such investigations could not be located, as related to Seventh-day Adventist colleges. There seemed to be a need for a study of predictors of student teaching success in Seventh-day Adventist colleges.

Method. The purpose of the study was to look at selected factors and determine whether or not they are related to student teaching success. Four hundred and fifty students who had completed their student teaching experience between Fall quarter 1977 and Spring quarter 1983 were involved in the study. Data were collected …
