Competence-Based Curriculum (Cbc) In Kenya And The Challenge Of Vision 2030, Dovison Kereri, Roseline Nyaboke, Loice K. Nyabwari

Faculty Publications

The educational system prioritizes the development of skills required in the 21st Century, which focuses on students’ needs such as collaboration, creativity, and competence. However, many countries cannot achieve the necessary skills without quality education, especially for developing countries like Kenya. In the past, Kenya's aim of the 8-4-4 system of education was self-reliance, but the aim of education was lost because it became too academic and exam-oriented. The current educational ministry's target is to implement a competency-based curriculum (CBC), 2-6-6-3, introduced in 2019 to meet the vision 2030 of science and technology and innovation. CBC requires students to be …

P-13 Predictors Of General Education Teachers Self-Efficacy For Educating Students With Asd, Renette Portecop-Prentice Oct 2021

P-13 Predictors Of General Education Teachers Self-Efficacy For Educating Students With Asd, Renette Portecop-Prentice

Celebration of Research and Creative Scholarship

This study examines the influence of ASD-specific training or professional development, peer observations, feedback from consultation/collaboration and teacher attitudes on general education teacher’s self-efficacy beliefs for educating students with ASD, as well as whether knowledge mediates the effect of professional development on teacher self-efficacy. It is hypothesized that the proposed theoretical model of teacher self-efficacy for educating students with ASD will fit an empirical model based on collected data. Data from 536 participants have been collected and are being analyzed. Preliminary results suggest that the hypothesized model does not fit the empirical model. However, the factors appearing to have the …

Leveraging Collaboration And Peer Support To Initiate And Sustain A Faculty Development Program, Anneris Coria-Navia, Scott Moncrieff

Faculty Publications

In today’s impoverished higher education fiscal climate, especially considering the enormous financial implications to higher education of accommodating the changes required by the coronavirus pandemic, “nonessential” though highly important programs, such as centers for teaching and learning (CTLs), are very likely to be underfunded. In this study, we illustrate how underfunded programs can leverage peer collaboration and support to initiate productive, formal systems of assistance for faculty by describing a number of such programs developed by and/or coordinated by our CTL. Moreover, we propose that sustainable programs, especially at small liberal arts institutions, must include a strong component of peer …

Socioeconomic Status And Ethnicity As Predictors Of Childhood Career Aspirations, Sydney Saint-Jean Apr 2021

Socioeconomic Status And Ethnicity As Predictors Of Childhood Career Aspirations, Sydney Saint-Jean

Honors Theses

Beginning at an early age, children discuss what they want to be when they grow up. This is known as their career aspirations. There are multiple factors that influence the career aspirations of children. Some of which includes familial income level, grade level and ethnicity. Although studies suggest that there is a relationship between income level and career aspirations, there is a gap in the literature when examining the relationships between socioeconomic status, ethnicity, grade level, and their effects on the career aspirations of children. This study explores this multi-level relationship on what a child wants to be when they …

Perspectives On The Effect Of Covid-19 Related School Closures In Senegal, The Gambia, And Guinea-Bissau, Thula Norton Lambert

Andrews University Teaching and Learning Conference

This comparative case study aimed to explore how Covid-19 related school closures impacted continuity of teaching and learning in six K-12 schools in the West-African countries of Senegal, The Gambia, and Guinea-Bissau. Thematic analysis was conducted using an inductive approach. While this study reveals the stark reality of the digital divide among the schools, emerging themes show how some schools have adapted to the new reality of teaching and learning in the age of Covid-19.
