When you think of subjects that benefit from literacy, music may not be the first one that comes to mind. While "reading" music usually refers to interpreting the notes and symbols on the page being able to read texts about music can give students context and background they wouldn't otherwise have. This enables them to connect to the music on a deeper and more meaningful level. This project describes just a few of the ways increasing literacy in the field of music enhances the quality of education students receive

Problem
Synesthesia is a neurological condition characterized by over-abundant neural connectivity between commonly highly specialized areas of the brain. The developmental form of the condition often results in automatic and consistent cross-sensory associations between perceived stimuli and commonly unrelated brain regions. This research contemplates the specific form of music notation-to-color synesthesia and its impact on early stages of music education. Synesthetes with this mode of the condition tend to involuntarily yet consistently associate music-notational concepts with colors, thus rendering their assimilation of these concepts unique and individualized. The Effect Of Pull-Out Programs On The Academic Achievement Of Sixth Grade Students In South Bend, Indiana, Pherbia Mathis Engdahl

Problem. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of pull-out programs in band and orchestra on the academic achievement of sixth-grade students in South Bend, Indiana.
Method. Two groups of 299 students each, an experimental pull-out group and a control non-pull-out group, were matched by third-grade total battery NCE scores, and were analyzed by pull-out and non-pull-out status, by race, and by gender.
A two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the hypotheses. When there was a significant interaction effect, a test of simple effects was performed. Pairwise Comparison was tested using the Student-Neuman-Keuls Multiple …

Problem. Initiating work in the coordination of church music activities has been undertaken in the North American and European portions of the world-wide organization of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. There was a need to develop a comprehensive model of music ministry which the Church could utilize when further steps in the advancement of organized music programs will be taken.
Method. In the process of creating the philosophical rationale for the model a descriptive method was used. Adventist literature on music ministry was reviewed, analyzed, and compared with the basic themes of Johansson's contrapuntal design (1984). In thedevelopment of the rest …
