A Blend Of Absurdism And Humanism: Defending Kurt Vonnegut’S Place In The Secondary Setting, Krisandra R. Johnson
A Blend Of Absurdism And Humanism: Defending Kurt Vonnegut’S Place In The Secondary Setting, Krisandra R. Johnson
Butler Journal of Undergraduate Research
This essay argues that Kurt Vonnegut blends a unique humanist stance into his absurdist plots and characters, ultimately urging readers to confront the absurd with a kindness and human decency his protagonists often find rare. As a result of this absurd and humanist synthesis, I defend and promote Vonnegut’s place in the secondary English curriculum, despite his rank on many banned books lists, since his characters’ journeys correlate thematically with the growth and process of postmodern adolescents and encourage moral responsibility without sentimental manipulation.
Focusing on Cat’s Cradle, God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, and Slaughterhouse-Five as primary sources, specifically …

The Middle Landscape Of The Private College: A Bicentennial Perspective, George W. Geib
The Middle Landscape Of The Private College: A Bicentennial Perspective, George W. Geib
Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS
America's Private Colleges and Universities have entered the bicentennial year expressing deep concern for their individual and collective futures. They seem constantly engaged in a search for new students and additional financial contributors; they darkly aver that they may be forced to close forever if their search fails; and they point to the dozens of others campuses that passed from the scene in the last decade as proof of the urgency of their case. To some observers these forebodings of doom may appear, like the associated press reports about Mark Twain's demise, greatly exaggerated. But the immediacy and intensity with …

History Of The Indiana Dental College, 1879-1925, Jack D. Carr
Graduate Thesis Collection
The purpose of this study is to compile an accurate and, in so far as possible, a complete history of the Indiana Dental College. It is hoped that such a study will help to clarify the reasons for the emphasis upon certain aspects of dental curriculums in the past, and that it will help in evaluating the needs of the future program to eliminate encumberaces of traditional approaches which, in some instances, are no longer appropriate.
A History Of The Indiana State School For The Deaf, Windell W. Fewell
A History Of The Indiana State School For The Deaf, Windell W. Fewell
Graduate Thesis Collection
This study has been motivated by an intimate contact with the Indiana State School for the Deaf as a teacher and by a growing interest in its development. This interest was further stimulated by coming into contact with the large volume of school records which, in some cases, date back to the beginning of the school in 1843. In spite of the fact that these original source materials have been fairly well preserved, no history of the school, other than comparatively brief sketches, has been written.

A History Of The Illinois High School Athletic Association And Its Relationship To The Public High School, Wilbur N. Allen

The stimulation of this study lies in the fact that no written history of the Illinois High School Athletic Association is now in existence. The present executive officers of the Illinois High School Athletic Association felt there was a definite need for such a record.

In this dissertation the author has attempted to assemble all the bits of information extant in the county. Much of it comes from primary sources and secondary accounts. To this has been added a smaller amount of information gathered by personal interview with reliable individuals; principally teachers, who have been in the teaching service for many years and who were connected with the events described. While no history can be called complete, the information here assembled can be the basis for those who wish to continue a history of the county schools, in years to come. The interest in Rush …
