Improving Physical Literacy In Middle School Indigenous And Non-Indigenous Students, Jarod-Lee P. Milko

The Dissertation-in-Practice at Western University

Physical activity levels in Canadian youth are decreasing. This Organizational Improvement Plan (OIP) focuses on improving physical literacy in middle school Indigenous and non-Indigenous students in a Northern Ontario urban school. The Daily Physical Activity (DPA) policy in Ontario public elementary schools has achieved about 50% fidelity in classrooms since its inception in 2005 (Allison, et al., 2016; Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion, 2015, p. 60). Exploring Hpe Teachers' Self-Efficacy Toward Technology Integration, Danielle Werner

Honors Projects

The digital age has specifically called on physical educators to enhance their instruction using various digital tools (Krause, 2017). Although it is evident that physical educators need to incorporate technology, few studies have examined in-service physical education teachers perceived self-efficacy to integrate technology in their curriculum, and how mastery, vicarious, and social persuasion experiences impact overall self-efficacy. The purpose of this research is to analyze health and physical education (HPE) teachers’ self-efficacy toward technology integration in the physical education classroom, with a specific focus on how teachers’ present self-efficacy to integrate technology in physical education is related to prior training …

Experiences In Physical Education And Sport: The Intersection Of Identifying As A Female, An Athlete, And Visually Impaired, Margaret Buckley

Human Movement Sciences Theses & Dissertations

Introduction. Individuals with visual impairments, females, and athletes encounter different challenges during physical education. However, little is known about how the challenges connected with each of these identities intersect and if that intersection impacts experiences differently. The purpose of this study was to take an explicitly intersectional approach to understand how identifying as an individual with a visual impairment, a female, and an athlete intersect to influence physical education and sport experiences. Methods. To describe the participants’ intersectional experiences as female athletes with a visual impairment, an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) research approach was implemented. Four female athletes with visual …

Educational Considerations

This historical research focuses on the role of women in physical education and sport during the 1930s. The purpose is to explore the trends that led to a vast difference between men’s and women’s roles and expectations in physical education and sport during this time period. To engage in effective research of this societal difference, a Feminist Theoretical Framework was employed to analyze primary and secondary sources related to physical education and sports during the 1930s.

Twenty-six YouTube posts were examined. The data were analyzed using the constant comparative method to find patterns in the posting of students’ experiences of participating in these activities. Three major themes of the digital clips clearly emerged. These themes included (a) perceived skill …
