Educators’ Perspectives Of Student Outcomes, Rikki Jean Cook
Educators’ Perspectives Of Student Outcomes, Rikki Jean Cook
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Individual experiences inform psychological adjustment, academic achievement, and trait-specific behaviors during adolescence. The formation of their identity is further dependent upon social and emotional interactions such as those experienced in the social learning environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, mandated social distancing resulted in the closure of public schools state-wide, forcing students and educators to utilize online educational environments with no preparatory or transitionary periods to allow for adequate adjustment. It is necessary to assess and work toward an understanding of the consequences of this environmental shift, and of the adolescents’ modified social interactions. This descriptive qualitative phenomenological study explores the …
Prepared To Succeed: A Systematic Grounded Theory Examining The Nature, Development, And Perceived Benefits Of Homeschool Teacher Self-Efficacy In Wisconsin, Joshua D. Andrew
Prepared To Succeed: A Systematic Grounded Theory Examining The Nature, Development, And Perceived Benefits Of Homeschool Teacher Self-Efficacy In Wisconsin, Joshua D. Andrew
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this systematic grounded theory study was to define and explain the development of homeschool teacher self-efficacy and its significance for homeschooling parents in Wisconsin. Bandura’s self-efficacy theory served as the initial theoretical framework for this study, as it defined four general sources of self-efficacy development: enactive mastery experiences, vicarious experiences through social models, social persuasion, and the regulation of physical and emotional states. Through surveys, open-ended interviews, focus groups, and artifacts received from 10 homeschooling parents, this study attempted to define how homeschooling parents perceive homeschool teacher self-efficacy, to what homeschooling parents attribute the development of homeschool …
Predicting K-12 Teacher Self-Efficacy From Neuroscience Literacy Factors, Tobey Lewis Nichols
Predicting K-12 Teacher Self-Efficacy From Neuroscience Literacy Factors, Tobey Lewis Nichols
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to explore how K-12 teachers’ self-efficacy correlates to their neuroscience literacy factors--a combination of scientific concept of learning and memory and belief in neuromyths. What teachers know about learning, memory, and the brain influences their instructional strategies and achieving academic goals. The better understanding a teacher has of learning, memory and the brain, the higher efficacy teachers’ have to execute the necessary actions to achieve desired teaching goals. A sample of 110 K-12 certified teachers were recruited from a large school district in East Tennessee to participate in this present study. Data …
Teacher Beliefs In Title I Schools Compared To Teacher Beliefs In Nontitle I Schools, Tammy Rene Nolan
Teacher Beliefs In Title I Schools Compared To Teacher Beliefs In Nontitle I Schools, Tammy Rene Nolan
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this multiple case study was to discover and compare teacher beliefs of elementary teachers in Title I schools to elementary teachers in Non-title I schools. Two theories guided this study, Kegan’s Constructive Development Theory (CDT) and Bandura’s Theory of Self-Efficacy. Together the two theories provided a framework for how adults think and form beliefs that influence their decisions and behaviors. This qualitative research sought to answer the following questions: What do elementary teachers in Title I schools believe about themselves as teachers, compared to what elementary teachers in Nontitle I schools believe about themselves as teachers? What …
The Effects Of The Covid-19 Pandemic On Anxiety, Stress, And Resilience In Economically Challenged Single Mothers, Gloria Jean Hill-Murray
The Effects Of The Covid-19 Pandemic On Anxiety, Stress, And Resilience In Economically Challenged Single Mothers, Gloria Jean Hill-Murray
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to describe the experiences of economically challenged single mothers during Covid 19. Mitigating the severe anxiety and stress risks linked with COVID-19 has been a goal of public health incentives. Less effort has been spent on studying the psychological issues connected to the worldwide epidemic, particularly among economically challenged communities. The aims of the study were to explore the impact of anxiety and stress of the COVID 19 pandemic on economically challenged single mothers, to determine the needs of this group, and to identify prevention and interventions that might support them in …
Differences Of Attitudes And Norms Toward Plagiarism Between First- And Continuing-Generation College Students, Michael Owen Harris
Differences Of Attitudes And Norms Toward Plagiarism Between First- And Continuing-Generation College Students, Michael Owen Harris
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This quantitative, causal-comparative study examines differences in attitudes and subjective norms between first- and continuing-generation college students toward plagiarism. Research studies have reported that up to 90% of college students admitted having committed plagiarism. Plagiarism harms the student who cheats, the reputation of the school, and all associated. First-generation college students experience greater challenges in their first years of college than their continuing-generation peers and may be more at risk for resorting to plagiarism. The researcher employed the Attitude Toward Plagiarism Questionnaire (Cronbach’s score of .79) to measure attitudes and norms toward plagiarism. The findings from the administration form the …
A Study On Factors Affecting Perseverance And Commitment In Christian Marriages, Oluwafemi O. Owadasa
A Study On Factors Affecting Perseverance And Commitment In Christian Marriages, Oluwafemi O. Owadasa
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The concept of marriage is as old as the world itself and in Christianity, the bond is promised to sustain a lifetime. Current research has presented little insight into the concept of marriage in Christianity and the reasons leading to divorce among Christian couples in developed nations as opposed to underdeveloped nations. The purpose of this study was to understand the role of perseverance, culture, and extended family involvement on Christian practice, marriage, and divorce in developed and underdeveloped nations. The philosophy that guided the study was positivism. A total of 100 participants who regularly attend church were selected to …
Current State Of Inclusion Education: A Cross-State Analysis Of Compliance, Teacher Certification, And Students With Disabilities Academic Outcomes, Emily Rose Winters
Current State Of Inclusion Education: A Cross-State Analysis Of Compliance, Teacher Certification, And Students With Disabilities Academic Outcomes, Emily Rose Winters
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Since passage of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) there has been a legal requirement to provide students with disabilities the most inclusive education possible (Winchell et al., 2018) while Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 requires that education be delivered by highly qualified teachers. Despite this, there have been minimal parameters set by the federal government in relation to inclusion education implementation or what constitutes a highly qualified teacher leading to significant variance in state inclusion education methods (Westling, 2019) and requirements for initial teaching certification or licensure (United States Department of Education, 2019; Youngs et al., 2003). …
A Transcendental Phenomenological Study Of Attachment Bonding Experiences Of At-Risk Students Who Graduated High School, Nancy Marie Lawrence
A Transcendental Phenomenological Study Of Attachment Bonding Experiences Of At-Risk Students Who Graduated High School, Nancy Marie Lawrence
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this study was to describe the attachment bonding experiences of at-risk students who graduated high school. The theory guiding this study was the Attachment Theory by John Bowlby. This theory explains how attachment bonds help at-risk individuals form relationships that assist in the development of psychological health. Data collection sources were composed of participant surveys, semi-structured participant interviews, and written letters of advice to other high school at-risk students. The practical significance derived from this study demonstrated the need to train education professionals of the necessity of developing secure attachment bonds with students and to reflectively develop …
