Response to Intervention (RTI) is a three-tiered program designed to deliver individualized intervention services early in a child's academic career. Prior to 2004, the education system had a "wait to fail" system in place for students. RTI is a model designed to change this by providing intervention before the child experiences academic failure. By providing students with this three-tiered intervention program, students may be less likely to be referred for special education services in the future (Boucher, n.d.). Looping is the practice of a teacher staying with the same group of students for two or three years. The paper discusses the effects that looping has on the relationships teachers form with students and families. An overview of the history of looping is followed by the benefits that looping provides for students, families and teachers. The project is a guide for teacher and schools that want to implement looping. The project includes ways to organize looping classrooms, student selection and areas to be mindful of.

Writer's Workshop and the influence of peer relationships and art on young children's literacy development were explored. There was found to be a direct correlation between children's art/drawings on their literacy development. Peer interactions during writing were also found to positively impact young writers. Peers and art do impact early literacy and have influences on Writer's Workshop and children's attitudes toward writing. Based on this research a handbook was developed to aid educators in planning a Writer's Workshop model, developing peer relationships during writing, and assessing student writing.

Designing a multicultural literature based library for use in the classroom setting to promote higher academic achievement among culturally and linguistically diverse students was the purpose of this project. Studies supporting the connection between culturally relevant literature and its use in the classroom with academic achievement among culturally and linguistically diverse students were summarized. The result of this research analysis supports the use of culturally relevant literature and activities with young children. The project provides brochures, resources and guides for use of culturally relevant literature with young children.

A handbook has been developed to aid teachers in the incorporation of movement activities in the elementary classroom. The activities can be done between lessons or between long periods of focus. The activities will help to gain attention and engagement of students. The activities in the handbook are to be used as a supplement to any existing elementary curriculum. The handbook consists of seventy-eight activities that may be used in a variety of classroom settings. Current literature and research surrounding the topics of engagement, stimulation, retention, and the importance of movement for adolescents were explored.

It was the purpose of this study to (1) compare the multiplicative abilities of fourth graders using the textbook form of learning to that of second graders using the textbook form of learning supplemented by the Cuisenaire Rods; (2) determine which area of multiplication might be stressed in the coming years to give the district a better primary arithmetic program; and (3) determine if the rods were as helpful to the slow learners as they were to the fast learners.

The purpose of this study was (1) to determine if a classroom teacher could effect an increase in interest in independent reading shown by an intermediate level class through an intensified program of stimulation as measured against the reading interests evidenced by a comparable class not receiving the extra stimulation, and (2) to determine to what extent if any this stimulation of reading interests affected reading ability as measured by a standardized reading achievement test.

It is possible that interruptions cannot be completely eliminated, but from this study it is hoped that teachers and administrators will be able to evaluate their particular situations and minimize interruption problems. Other purposes of the study have been to determine the origin of interruptions and the relationship between disciplinary problems and classroom interruptions. Also included will be an evaluation of teaching duties that reduce teachers’ instructional time.
