This presentation uses Kane’s (2006) validity argument approach to validate an observation tool that evaluates special education teacher effectiveness through the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices. Relevant evidence for two of the four validity inferences (scoring and generalization) will be interpreted and applied towards the development of the special education observation tool.

How do faculty meet the “net generation” learning needs? The challenge of engaging students was accomplished in this senior leadership course using a variety of strategies. Course requirements included a classroom presentation, multimedia applications, and a quality improvement project completed in a 90 hour practicum. Student-developed websites will be featured and evaluated for design, flow, evidence-based information, credibility, currency, and relevancy to practice. Learning outcomes will be assessed using undergraduate curriculum foundations. Participants will be invited to share strategies that were successful for them in engaging the net generation in meaningful coursework.

The field of school counseling is becoming increasingly evidence-based and results-driven. As a way to help Massachusetts’ schools develop school counseling programs, the Massachusetts School Counselors Association created the Massachusetts Accountability Report Card (MARC). We are school counseling interns at TechBoston Academy, a Boston Public School. Over the course of the 2010-2011 school year, we measured the effectiveness of our interventions and compiled them into a “MARC Jr.” The information we will present is a review of our MARC Jr., which focused on our school counseling curriculum for 11th grade students.

DURING THE 2010 AUSTRALIAN federal election campaign, the Gillard Government announced plans for a new, internationally recognised senior-school qualification termed the Australian Baccalaureate. This paper details a research project on the new Australian Baccalaureate which investigated its proposed aims, framework and timeline for planning and implementation. The intent of the project was to analyse both the practical and political implications of adding an elite level of secondary curriculum to the roll out of the K-12 Australian Curriculum; compare it to the longer standing International Baccalaureate; and examine the Australian Baccalaureate within the context of internationalising Australia's curriculum qualifications.

Evaluations of new methods of teaching Organizational Behavior (OB) usually rely on course ratings collected at the end of the semester. This article discusses the need for more rigorous designs for assessing teaching innovations, and proposes evaluating OB courses on the basis of change in self-ratings of managerial competencies. Self-ratings of managerial competencies and a more sophisticated evaluation design are used to compare the Practical Organizational Behavior Education (PROBE) method to the lecture/tutorial method of delivering of OB material. The paper proposes both theoretical and empirical approaches to differentiate the Community of Inquiry (CoI) in online classes at individual and group levels. Following the example of research on organizational climate, it assesses the strength of shared perceptions of teaching presence, social presence and cognitive presence. The paper develops a theory of composition that relates isomorphic constructs of these presences at the individual and the class levels. This paper integrates Freirian ideas into reflections from one social justice educators’ practice within higher education. While the author originally learned about Freire in a limited fashion related to systems of oppression, dialogical approaches to education and the importance of praxis, Freire become reduced to a method for practice. Through an expanded reading of Freire’s broader works beyond Pedagogy of the Oppressed, “new” concepts related to class suicide, authority and freedom, political clarity, and epistemological circling complicate and illuminate a more robust reflection upon his own social justice education practice.
