Developing Strategies To Implement The D.W.S. Program Of Liberty University In South Korea, Taeseong Kim Jun 2023

Developing Strategies To Implement The D.W.S. Program Of Liberty University In South Korea, Taeseong Kim

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This study suggests practical strategies to implement the Doctor of Worship Studies program of Liberty University in South Korea. In the past several decades, Christian worship in South Korea has followed America’s footsteps of worship transition. As many Christian leaders in the U.S. have agreed on the urgency of worship renewal, so have Christian leaders in South Korea. True worship must be relational with the Triune God, which is the core of Christian worship. When worship lacks a rightful relationship with God, it becomes human-centered and ritualistic. Worship renewal must flow from the worship leaders to laypeople, and it is …

Cognitive And Affective Academic Self-Concepts: Which Predicts Vocational Education Students’ Career Choice?, Monica W.C. Choy, Alexander Seeshing Yeung Jan 2022

Cognitive And Affective Academic Self-Concepts: Which Predicts Vocational Education Students’ Career Choice?, Monica W.C. Choy, Alexander Seeshing Yeung

Faculty of Management & Hospitality (THEi)

Grounded in self-concept theory, this study examined the predictability of cognitive and affective academic self-concepts in relation to vocational education students’ education and career choice outcomes in the Hong Kong HE setting in two studies (Ns = 384 and 476). Structural equation modeling revealed that sense of competence (i.e., cognitive) is more related to competence/performance-based outcomes (i.e., operational capability and resilience at work in Study 1; and competition in Study 2). Liking of the vocation (i.e., affective) is more related to non-performance-based emotional-motivational outcomes (i.e., career intention in both studies and educational aspiration in Study 2) than is …

Exploring Faculty Perceptions Of Professional Development Support For Transitioning To Emergency Remote Teaching, Ana Redstone, Tian Luo Jan 2021

Exploring Faculty Perceptions Of Professional Development Support For Transitioning To Emergency Remote Teaching, Ana Redstone, Tian Luo

STEMPS Faculty Publications

Professional development (PD) for instructors at higher education institutions offering online courses is important for assuring the quality of online programs. However, PD opportunities for faculty members have often been piecemeal and inadequate. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic that forced instructors around the world to teach online, PD has become even more critical to the success of the instructors, students, and institutions themselves. This paper describes research conducted at a large university in the United States that used a survey developed to operationalize Baran and Correia’s (2014) holistic Professional Development Framework for Online Teaching (PDFOT). The survey identified strengths …

The Role Of Undergraduate Student Affairs Coursework In Aspiring Student Affairs Professionals’ Career Development, Matthew J. Nelson

Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

This qualitative, single case study explored the influence of an undergraduate introductory student affairs course (SA 101) on the career development of aspiring student affairs professionals. Using Lent et al.’s (1994) social cognitive career theory, the study was guided by the following questions: (1) How did SA 101 contribute to the career development of students interested in a career in student affairs? (2) In what ways did this course assist students in the development of self-efficacy in relation to their interest in pursuing a career in student affairs? (3) To what degree did students in SA 101 describe positive outcome …

Career Technical Students And Post-Secondary Education: A Hidden Population In The Massachusetts Education System, Nicolette Haug May 2018

Career Technical Students And Post-Secondary Education: A Hidden Population In The Massachusetts Education System, Nicolette Haug

Honors Projects in History and Social Sciences

This research looks into Career-Technical Education in Massachusetts, and what makes these institutions successful. Five career-technical high schools in Massachusetts are highlighted in this capstone project, including Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School in Upton, MA, as well as all of the public high schools in the regions. By analyzing standardized test scores and demographics, this project seeks to understand the differences in the way each school is performing academically, and recognizes Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School as a positive outlier. The capstone concludes with recommendations of success factors other career-technical high schools can adopt in order …

College Is Trade School For The Elite, Allen C. Guelzo Aug 2017

College Is Trade School For The Elite, Allen C. Guelzo

Civil War Era Studies Faculty Publications

Donald J. Trump has a degree from an Ivy League university—my alma mater, in fact—but he is not one of the Ivies’ admirers. “We must embrace new and effective job-training approaches, including online courses, high school curricula, and private-sector investment that prepare people for trade, manufacturing, technology and other really well-paying jobs and careers,” the president declared in March. “These kinds of options can be a positive alternative to a four-year degree.”

If ever an issue seemed assured of bipartisan support, you’d think it would be an initiative that helps connect workers with work. But up went the howls of …

Vocational Training In Higher Education: A Learning Centred Approach To Integrating ‘Educultures’, Jeff Ruigrok May 2017

Vocational Training In Higher Education: A Learning Centred Approach To Integrating ‘Educultures’, Jeff Ruigrok

Publications and Scholarship

The goal of this effort is to make plain any overlap between Post-Secondary Mechanical Technician Standards and Plumbing Apprenticeship Curriculum Standards. We'll investigate whether the overlap is significant enough to create a modern and updated classroom learning template. Mechanical Technician programs are generally 56 weeks in length. A Plumbing Apprenticeship is significantly longer. The essential question is: What portion of Technician Education equates to the first 100 to 200 weeks of Apprenticeship Training. If enough meaningful and actionable overlaps do exist there may be opportunities to strengthen real-world-connections to in-school lectures and labs.

The two key Standards that will be …

What Do Employers Really Want? Helping Vocational Learners Crack The Code, Kate Perkins Jan 2017

What Do Employers Really Want? Helping Vocational Learners Crack The Code, Kate Perkins

Transition and Post-School Education and Training

In the majority of vocational qualifications, assessment of competence incorporates a structured work placement (SWP). Increasingly, host employers are using these placements as part of recruitment strategies, particularly for entry level roles. In effect, the placement is becoming the new ‘interview’, and the new interview is morphing into an extended audition where a learner’s non-technical, ‘employability’ skills may play a critical role. But do learners know what their host employers are really looking for, and to what extent are their training programs helping them to develop and demonstrate the skills that are most likely to influence an employer’s recruitment decisions? …

Annual Transitions Between Labour Market States For Young Australians, Hielke Buddelmeyer, Gary N. Marks Jan 2010

Annual Transitions Between Labour Market States For Young Australians, Hielke Buddelmeyer, Gary N. Marks

Transition and Post-School Education and Training

This study uses an annual timeframe to evaluate the influence of labour market status in one period on status in the subsequent period. Understanding the role of past labour market experiences is important when it is the objective of policy-makers to increase the proportion of time spent by young Australians in desirable labour market states, such as full-time work, and reduce the time they spend in marginalised activities, such as unemployment. These concerns are heightened during lean economic times, but they never really go away. A natural question that may arise, especially in a weak labour market for youth, is …

Adult Education In Post-War Australia, Colin Robert Badger Jan 1944

Adult Education In Post-War Australia, Colin Robert Badger

Future of Education

It cannot be denied that we will need more and more adult education in post-war Australia. There are many encouraging signs that the people of Australia are becoming aware of the deficiencies of their educational systems, and that reform and reconstruction, long overdue, will be bought about by the steady pressure of public opinion. There is a strong demand for a general raising of the school leaving age, for revised and better curricula, for better professional training for teachers, and for far more liberal provision of school buildings and equipment. And there is, fortunately, an increasingly strong demand for adult …
