Validation Of The Myanmar Teacher Competency Standards Framework (Tcsf) Final Report, Anna Dabrowski, Jeaniene Spink Sep 2020

Validation Of The Myanmar Teacher Competency Standards Framework (Tcsf) Final Report, Anna Dabrowski, Jeaniene Spink

Teacher education

This final report provides background to the four domains of the Myanmar Teacher Competency Standards Framework (TCSF), and the validation study design, stages and methods which sought to answer the focus question: Does the TCSF describe effective teaching in Myanmar? The study included expert review, a teacher survey and case studies of teaching practice in a sample of effective teachers. The report presents key findings and next steps from validation of the TCSF to implementation.

Validation Of The Myanmar Teacher Competency Standards Framework (Tcsf): Phase Iii Case Studies, Anna Dabrowski, Rachel Parker, Amy Berry, Jeaniene Spink Jul 2020

Validation Of The Myanmar Teacher Competency Standards Framework (Tcsf): Phase Iii Case Studies, Anna Dabrowski, Rachel Parker, Amy Berry, Jeaniene Spink

Teacher education

Case studies form the third phase of the validation study for the Myanmar Teacher Competency Standards Framework (TCSF) in advance of its implementation in 2020. As the purpose of the case studies is to ensure that the TCSF is culturally and contextually appropriate, this paper outlines the results of data analysis on the Case Study component. This report focuses on responding to four key research questions: Which standards, minimum requirements and indicators were easiest and hardest to demonstrate? How is effective teaching demonstrated by the selected teachers in Myanmar? How does the evidence of effective teaching differ in different contexts? …

Environmental Scan: Topical Areas To Inform A Future Review Of The Australian Professional Standards For Teachers, Kerry Elliott, Pru Mitchell, Hilary Hollingsworth, Charlotte Waters, Jenny Trevitt Feb 2020

Environmental Scan: Topical Areas To Inform A Future Review Of The Australian Professional Standards For Teachers, Kerry Elliott, Pru Mitchell, Hilary Hollingsworth, Charlotte Waters, Jenny Trevitt

Teaching standards and teacher evaluation

The brief was to conduct a broad sweep of literature that has surfaced since the publication of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers in 2011, and to consider how this literature could inform any future review of the standards. This multi-pronged scan method identified eleven topics that have increasingly influenced teachers' work over the past decade. The environmental scan report provides a critical review of current educational research and policy literature for each of the 11 topics. Findings provide a description of the topic, key sources, an outline of the changing landscape as it relates to teaching, examples of how …

Validating Professional Standards For Teachers: A Practical Guide For Research Design: Snapshot Literature Review, Jen Jackson, Yung Nietschke Oct 2018

Validating Professional Standards For Teachers: A Practical Guide For Research Design: Snapshot Literature Review, Jen Jackson, Yung Nietschke

Teaching standards and teacher evaluation

This report aims to establish a strong evidence base for planning a validation study of professional standards for teachers. It presents findings from a rapid "snapshot" review of relevant research literature, to identify previous examples of validation studies, and extract lessons from these about worthwhile methods and considerations in research design. This review was originally conducted to inform the design of a validation study of the draft Myanmar Teacher Competency Standards Framework, but may also have wider relevance to other education systems pursuing similar standards-based reforms. This report presents findings from the literature review. It is divided into four sections: …

Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment: An Intervention Project At The Intersection Of Standards, Professional Knowledge And Assessment, Claire Wyatt-Smith Aug 2018

Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment: An Intervention Project At The Intersection Of Standards, Professional Knowledge And Assessment, Claire Wyatt-Smith

2009 - 2019 ACER Research Conferences

The benchmarking of education systems has been accompanied by an increasing policy interest in the evidence base for initial teacher education and the related claims about graduate quality. In some countries, this has also fuelled the move to install standards that seek to specify competence on entry to teaching and at stages of career progression. In Australia, referents for these efforts include the Australian professional standards for teachers: Graduate teachers (AITSL, 2011), and National Program Standards (AITSL, 2015). It was in the context of policy-driven reform in Australian initial teacher education (ITE) that a consortium of 13 ITE providers from …

Assessing Accomplished Teaching With Reliability And Validity: The Acer Portfolio Project, Lawrence Ingvarson Aug 2018

Assessing Accomplished Teaching With Reliability And Validity: The Acer Portfolio Project, Lawrence Ingvarson

2009 - 2019 ACER Research Conferences

We know that good teachers are worth their weight in gold. But if good teaching is to be truly valued, the teaching profession must be able to demonstrate that it can evaluate itself in ways that are reliable, valid and fair. This capacity is central to any profession. It is also central to lifting the status of teaching, rewarding accomplished teaching and enabling teaching to complete with other professions for our ablest graduates. Recent OECD reports emphasise the necessity of strengthening the teaching profession, which depends upon widespread use of evidence-based teaching practices. Building the capacity for evaluation is the …

Quality Is Key In Early Childhood Education In Australia, Kate Torii, Stacey Fox, Dan Cloney Oct 2017

Quality Is Key In Early Childhood Education In Australia, Kate Torii, Stacey Fox, Dan Cloney

Early Childhood Education

Early education benefits all children, and can be transformative for the children with the greatest challenges. But not all children in Australia experience a high quality early education. Getting quality right is the key piece of the puzzle needed to deliver the promise of early education. Investing in early learning is a widely accepted approach, backed by extensive evidence, for governments and families to foster children’s development, lay the foundations for future learning and wellbeing, and reduce downstream expenditure on health, welfare and justice. While all children benefit from high quality early learning, research also shows that children experiencing higher …

Improving Consistency In Teacher Judgements : An Investigation For The Department Of Education, Victoria, Marion Meiers, Clare Ozolins, Phillip Mckenzie

School and system improvement

The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) was commissioned by the Department of Education in Victoria to undertake an investigation of current best-practice approaches to ensuring consistency of teacher judgements against P-10 state-wide standards.

The investigation encompassed national and international approaches that had been implemented or were under development. A key objective of the investigation was that the approaches identified should be based on current information, research and best practice, and that they should be supportive of the continued development of a learning and assessment culture in Victorian schools. The report of the investigation was required to provide key baseline …
