This applied dissertation examined the use of technological tools in formative assessment activities. These phenomena have left teachers searching for timely methods to perform formative assessment or assessment for learning activities. The problem addressed by this study was that standardized testing, large class size, and increasing distance learning at all educational levels, achieving formative assessment tasks necessary for successful learning can be a challenge. This research paper tackles the relationship of socioeconomic status (SES) to students’ emergency electronic learning (e-Learning) during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown period in the Philippines. The study investigates the impact of accessibility to the students’ performance in distance learning. By looking at these variables, the researchers seek to answer the research question, ‘what is the impact of the students’ family socioeconomic status on their accessibility to emergency e-Learning’. This mini-study will be viewed in the lens of human capital theory guided by Gary Becker (1964).

Incorporating the element of care is important in creating a positive, online learning experience. This is even more true in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, and students are reporting increased feelings of stress and isolation. Combining the ideas of humanized online learning, social presence, and care can help instructors to foster and nurture online learning communities. The author attempts to simplify itemized strategies instructors can employ to form the mnemonic device “C.A.R.E.” which stands for: Connection, Attention, Respect, and Energy.
