The IEA Teacher Education and Development Study in Mathematics (TEDS-M 2008) was a comparative study of primary and secondary mathematics teacher education. It examined how different countries prepared teachers to teach mathematics in primary and lower-secondary schools.
TEDS-M paid particular attention to links between teacher education policies, practices, and outcomes. TEDS-M asked several key research questions:
• What is the national policy context for mathematics teacher education?
• What are the main characteristics of mathematics teacher education programs, and how do they vary across countries?

This study reports the findings of an electronic exploratory survey of National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Student Representatives. The purpose of the survey was to gather information about the perspective of graduate students concerning problematic peers and their experiences with them in school psychology training programs. Due to changing demographics of students admitted to the School Psychology Training Program at Marshall University Graduate College, it has become imperative to significantly expand field experiences beginning in the first semester to address the lack of educational background of most of the students entering the program. This organized sequence of field experiences continues throughout the program, parallel to classroom instruction, affording opportunities for students to put theory into practice and to interact with professionals in the field, while also allowing for exposure to the public school environment. The persistence of cultural wars in academic disciplines and among populations within college and university campuses appears to he counterintuitive to the tradition of responsiveness to societal needs that is the hallmark of collegiate curriculum reform, especially throughout the twentieth century. Important issues in higher education's conversation over multiculturalism and the curriculum, ranging from reform of basic curricular requirements to the persistence of ethnic and gender studies programs, are discussed with an eye toward opportunities for effecting change in academic libraries.

As general and student populations become increasingly multicultural, institutions of higher learning have taken steps to implement diversity initiatives and programs. Regional and national accrediting bodies and councils have included requirements calling for the implementation of diversity initiatives at universities and colleges. In response, these institutions have established offices, created high-level administrative positions, and have developed campus centers that focus on diversity and intercultural issues. Based on previous and current experience, the author describes several diversity programs and strategies that have been implemented at post-secondary institutions. One measure of the impact of a high-stakes test is the attitudes that test takers hold towards it. It has been suggested that positive attitudes produce beneficial effects while real or anticipated negative experiences can result in the development of attitudes that erode confidence and potentially impact negatively on performance. This study investigated test taker attitudes by exploring the opinions, beliefs, and feelings of a group of overseas trained teachers preparing for a professional gate-keeping test, and examining correlations between attitudes and demographic and experiential factors. According to the Reading Report Card, teachers need to place more emphasis on teaching higher order comprehension skills and strategies. This advice (Educational Testing Service, 1985) was based on four national assesments of the reading achievement of American school children during the period 1970-84. Assesed were representative samples of 9, 13, and 17 year olds in school. In order to understand how well students can read, participants were given a wide range of materials and asked quations requiring a variety of reading skills and strategies.

This article analyzes the effects of the political, social and cultural contexts of secondary education in northern Uganda. Specifically, the authors examine interactions between several factors with the schooling system, including
- post-colonial curriculum,
- centralized examination system,
- several decades of war and instability,
- poverty, and
- intra-national and inter-tribal prejudice and discrimination.
Informing the analysis is the fact that Uganda is a democracy and thus has certain democratic responsibilities to its children and students. To explore these issues, the lenses of democratic theory and critical theory are employed.

Three themes in educational practice and policy create a need for consideration of ethics to frame practices of teachers serving in the evaluation of colleagues. First is a reoccurring series of evaluation designs that directly involve teachers in formative and/or summative peer evaluation (e.g., NBPTS, 2002: Peterson, 2000). The second basis is a call for increased teacher professionalism, which includes some form of peer review or evaluation (Cooperm 1998; Darling-Hammond, 1989). Finally, ethical codes to guide professional behavior have been established for a variety of educational applications (NEA, 1975; Sparks, 2000).

Research on learning to teach mathematics reveals that mathematics teaching is a complex process (Lerman, 2000) and classroom teaching and learning is a “multifaceted, extraordinarily complex phenomenon” (O’Connor, 1998, p. 43). Moreover, research reveals that the mathematics reform agenda has had an impact on what happens in the mathematics classroom, however, the impact has been superficial (Kazemi & Stipek, 2001) with teachers often retaining their pre-reform habits and attitudes in regards to mathematics teaching and learning (O’Connor, 1998). The Australian vocational education and training (VET) sector is responsible for education and training for work. It has a well-established national system of endorsed and accredited training and curriculum through training packages. There is a national qualifications framework which applies across the different tertiary sectors (higher and VET) through the Australian Qualifications Framework, and qualifications are transportable across states and sectors. There is industry input and co-ordination to training/training packages through industry skills councils. The qualifications undergo regular reviews and there are nationally agreed standards for training organisations. We introduce and reflect on "Images of Teaching", an ongoing web documentation research project on preschool teaching in Singapore. This paper discusses the project's purpose, methodological process, and our learning points as researchers who aim to contribute towards inquiry-based professional learning. This paper describes a qualitative inquiry into the experiences of Burmese refugee families with elementary schools in the U.S. and proposes a new perspective for serving the educational needs of refugee children. Data included in-depth interviews with 25 Burmese families in a midsize Midwestern city. Findings from the preliminary analysis demonstrated that due to their own limited school experiences, the parents did not know how they could advocate for their children’s schooling and use academic opportunities. While the parents appreciated and encouraged their children’s school learning, they lacked the resources to support their children in negotiating academic contexts. Moreover, the …
