Purpose: The purpose of this mixed methods multiple-case study was to describe how interdisciplinary collaborative teams support the college and career readiness and the mental health wellness of adolescents with emotional disturbance. A secondary purpose was to explore how team members describe and rate the importance of their interdisciplinary collaboration using the four essential elements (reflection, flexibility, newly created roles, and interdependence) based on the model established by Mellin (Mellin et al., 2010). Lastly, this study sought recommendations from team members on improved practices supporting adolescents with emotional disturbance.

Recent academic achievement gaps of public secondary students in Imo State, in WAEC, NECO, and JAMB examinations posed a threat to students’ aspiration to college education. The poor academic achievement level was denting previously achieved high academic record in Imo State. This trend was disturbing to parents and educators. However, this trend could be remedied if appropriate educational policy was enacted and implemented in secondary schools. The problem is, "Does a need exist for an effective guidance program in the small high schools of the State of California?" This study is based on the data obtained from the State Department of Education, Division of Secondary Education, Sacramento, California, and is based on the October, 1948, reports of the principals of California high schools to the Department of Education, and on nine interviews with high school principals or guidance directors in the following schools: Sutter Creek, Jackson, Brete Hart, Linden, Galt, Sonora, Oakdale, Tuolumne, and Lodi.
