This study aims to identify differences in the later integration of children with mild to moderate special needs based on their exposure to specialized staff regardless of the type of preschool they attended. This is done by observing the behaviors exhibited by those students with special needs and the proportion of the student’s day in a traditional classroom. One of the most noted issues with students who have special needs is their lack of appropriate early intervention with specifically-trained staff. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of a classwide positive behavior support (CWPBS) plan on the behavior and academic performance of students in a basic skills math and science classroom. The study utilized an ABA withdrawal design to investigate the impact of a CWPBS on student engagement/time on-task and student attention seeking behaviors. Furthermore, the study investigated the satisfaction of basic skills students with the CWPBS. Results of the study reveal that four out of the six participants reduced off-task behaviors, and similarly, four of the six student participants demonstrated an increase in classwork completion with …

The purpose of this research study is to compare the prevalence rates of students diagnosed with a primary disability of Emotional Disabilities (ED) grades kindergarten through twelfth, in Virginia in 2010 and 2015, and to examine patterns of change and differences. The results shown throughout the study will help identify regions and counties where there is a larger chance for over- or under-identification of emotional disabilities. Executive functions, a set of interrelated processes that facilitate organization and self control, impact many aspects of academic and social success. This study investigates the benefits of executive function skills instruction on classroom behavior. Factor analyses reveal executive function orients around three distinct but interrelated factors: inhibition, working memory, and flexibility. Using a spiraling curriculum eight fourth and fifth grade students from a suburban Title 1 elementary school were directly taught these skills over ten 30 minute sessions. Music education has an important place for students with special needs. Through community based arts education programs, student benefits range from social to academic. The problem is that too often music education, among arts programs, is not taught in special education classrooms. The purpose of this study was to identify benefits that music education has on students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), focusing specifically on academic, behavioral, and communicative skills.
