Ua3/9/5 Partnerships For Progress: Linking Higher Education & Economic Development, Wku President's Office, Gary A. Ransdell
WKU Archives Records
Speech delivered by WKU president Gary Ransdell at the National Governor's Association Center for Best Practices. In response to Governor Patton's challenges to create Programs of Distinction and enhance the state's capacity for economic development, we, at Western, have created a series of applied science centers. These centers are directing faculty talent toward creating a relevant curriculum in the sciences, toward solving environmental and material problems which limit economic development, and toward creating practice-based experiences for students. A by-product of these centers is a strengthened core curriculum which brings the applied sciences into focus for all WKU students.

Restructuring The Educational System As A Long-Term Solution To The Unemployment Problem In Nigeria., Abraham B. Borishade
Bullion
The educational process, formal or informal consciously created, represents an essential investment necessary for industrialization; such education must be planned to fit the needs of a changing society so that as the Urban complex grows and demands expand. Education is the key with which to unlock the economic potential of the people. In contemporary developing countries, there is an incongruous relationship between education and their economies. This is reflected in the rising pool of the phenomenon of educated unemployed more than ever before. This paper examines the increasing problem associated with unemployment in Nigeria. The author conclude that It is …

Editor’s Note During a late night in the Klipsun office, a woman named Jackie came in to sweep the floors — to clean up our mess.
“Are you with Klipsun or are you with The Western Front?’ she asked me. "Klipsun,” I said, surprised she even asked. Jackie told me she loved to read Klipsun. She enjoyed the perspective the articles provided and sent it to her family. She told me, broom in hand, how she especially liked one article published in June.

The Role Of Environmental Analogs In Identifying Potentially Invasive Woody Plants In Iowa, Mark P. Widrlechner
The Role Of Environmental Analogs In Identifying Potentially Invasive Woody Plants In Iowa, Mark P. Widrlechner
Journal of the Iowa Academy of Science: JIAS
Americans cultivate a large and diverse range of introduced woody plants as important sources of food and forest products, as well as for urban horticulture, amenity and wildlife plantings, and windbreaks. A small number of these species have become serious pests, disrupting well-established native plant communities or functioning as range and agricultural weeds. More of these species are not serious pests today, but have escaped cultivation and serve as potential sources of future outbreaks. Two other sources of potentially invasive woody plants are found among species that are not or are only rarely cultivated, about which we often know little …
