The current study was designed: (1) to develop an educational tool on female masturbation capable of reaching a wide audience of women with accurate and complete information on female masturbation; (2) to provide initial validation for the further educational usefulness of this tool and (3) to assess its potential ability for improving overall sexual functioning in women by possibly altering negative attitudes toward masturbation and/or by dis-inhibiting masturbatory behavior.

An Evaluation Of The Vocational Education Program In Stanton High School And Recommendations For Expansion, Marsha Bristow Todd

An evaluation and recommendations for change to the vocational education program at Stanton High School was conducted on the basis of existing programs, community needs survey, interviews with administration personnel, and a review of literature on vocational education. A survey of the 204 Class AA high schools was conducted to ascertain the type of vocational programs that were provided and the reasons for inclusion of each listed program. 166 responses were received. The accumulated data was then translated into tables showing what existed, what was being done elsewhere, and what was perceived as being needed.

A series of observations was made on students attending a cultural center during the third of three visits scheduled throughout the school year. A single observer made 444 one minute observations on kindergarten/ first, second, and third grade students participating in two learning areas. The group activity area emphasized group participation where small groups were formed consisting of students from each school and ethnic group represented. The individual activity area offered the students a choice of center activities as well as the freedom to choose with whom they wanted to work. Since 1943, six studies have been made of speech education in Oregon public schools. Several make reference to forensics, but none discuss this aspect of speech education in depth. As a result, the role of forensics in the schools has been assumed or denied. With the educational situation as it is, however, it is necessary that we have a greater understanding of the relationship between forensics and general speech education and language arts education.

The present study investigated the effects of public progress charts on self-pacing in a social studies course taught by the PSI method in a middle school (grades 5-8). It was found that public progress charts significantly enhanced a student's rate of progress, t(45) = 5.06, p < .01. Student satisfaction with the PSI method was measured and it was found that students liked the PSI method.

The Effect Of Item Format On Computation Subtest Scores Of Standardized Mathematics Achievement Tests, Larry Carcelli

The effect on childrens' scores of different item formats used in standardized mathematics achievement tests was investigated. Second grade students were given a mathematics computation test using formats derived from five standardized achievement tests. Identical content was tested with each format. Differences in test scores between types of formats were statistically significant at p < .001 (F = 45.25). These results indicate that what a student appears to know is substantially influenced by the format of the particular test used in measuring achievement. These differences are not accounted for by the normative scaling of the different tests. Greater attention should be given to the effect of test item format in selecting and administering achievement tests.

Relationship Between Attribution And Conditions Of Reward In Children, Rhonda Miles

Thirty-eight third grade students were given the Intellectual Achievement Responsibility (lAR) Questionaire in order to determine their internal and external attribution scores. From those scores, 28 subjects were chosen to test the hypothesis by performing two separate but related tasks under the conditions of self-and external rewards. A correlation using the Pearson Product- Moment Correlation Coefficient was computed in order to determine the relation between the subject's attribution level and performance under different conditions of reward. The results showed a higher relationship between attribution and self-reward when self-reward followed external reward. A Chi square test was also computed to determine …

This experiment was a comparison of the pre and posttest scores of low socio-economic teenagers on Cirites' Career Maturity Inventory and the Gordon occupational Checklist. The experimental group was exposed to learning modules with emphasis on personal relations, problem-solving techniques, and decision-making methods. A MANOVA test revealed no significant differences between the pre and posttests on either the Career Maturity Inventory or the Gordon Occupational Checklist. There is an indication that these Subjects may need development in other areas as their career maturity is within the normal range. Completing Long-Term Undergraduate Projects: Some Critical Variables, Timothy K. Zoia

Completion of long-term academic projects involves large amounts of behavior over long periods of time. Steady rates of task completion may be difficult. This study is concerned with the completion of long-term projects by undergraduates who have received a prestigious university scholarship. Project completion and hours worked were correlated with the amount of supervision that the students received. The correlation between frequent supervisory meetings and completing project on time was significant (r=.70; df=1; P<.001). Suggestions for maintaining steady student performance are offered.

A Comparison Of Concurrent And Removed Component Procedures For Teaching Toothbrushing Skills To Preschoolers, Timothy Ian Mckinley

The study compared the use of a removed component program to a concurrent training program in teaching toothbrushing skills to preschool children. The removed component program separated three response components from the terminal toothbrushing response and taught them separately out-of-the mouth before requiring them in the mouth. The concurrent training program required the three response components but did not train them separately in or out of the mouth. The removed component program taught the skills faster than or equal to the concurrent program, with a significantly higher percentage of correct responses.

A Confusion Matrix Intelligibility Testing Procedure For Preschool Children, Jane C. Coe-Kruse

This study was conducted to develop and examine a procedure for testing and analyzing the speech intelligibility of preschool children through the use of a phonetically balanced pictured word list, confusion matrices, and computer analysis. Four subjects and 15 listeners were used to obtain data on perception of sound production. The results indicate that use of this procedure differentiates varying speech intelligibilities and allows for effective analysis of sound production parameters as they pertain to speech intelligibility.

The purpose of this research was to clarify the relationship between interpersonal perception and locus of control. Interpersonal perception refers to the process of understanding internal states of other human beings. Locus of control refers to the belief in the nature of causality of reinforcement. Viewed theoretically as a continuum, individuals at one end, labeled internals, believe that the reinforcement they receive in life is the direct result of their own behavior. Conversely, individuals at the opposite end of the continuum, labeled externals, believe that the reinforcement they receive in life is the result of fate, luck, or powerful others. …

A year-long simulation game was created to facilitate the teaching of basic economics in a sixth and seventh grade middle school. The game could be adapted to implementation at lower grade levels. The students built two, table-top cities. They established a money system and were paid for positive behavior and effort. With their earned income and with loans from a bank, they purchased land, built homes, invested in business franchises, engaged in trade, and worked collectively to finance and build government projects and services. Correction is an important aspect of teaching, one that ESL teachers face daily. At issue is the ability to match the teacher's goals or priorities with what is supposed to be taught or learned, and the specific teaching-learning environment.

The study presents my original definition of correction, the beginning reference point for this work, which is eventually compared to a new definition of correction. This project is a presentation of two curricula, one for teaching Hmong children and the other for teaching Hmong adults. The curricula provide the necessary guidelines to implement bicultural ESL instruction in a monolingual setting. Included are theoretical discussions that explain the rationale behind the format and content of each of the curricula. This project consists of games and activities based on grammatical areas which are problems for the intermediate-level ESL student

After polling ESL teachers, we selected three specific problem areas:

(1) irregular past tense verbs (2) modal auxiliaries (3) verbs in the perfective

For each grammatical area we have created a minimum of six games/activities, including at least one card game, one board game, one individualized activity, and one jazz chant.

Every game and activity has been tested through actual use in at least one ESL classroom. Revisions have been made based on the results of this testing.
