Thinking back to your childhood, I’m sure each of you has engaged in the simple fun of spinning in a circle. Your feet began shuffling as you pushed yourself to spin rapidly and erratically. Depending on your mood, you either shut your eyes tightly for the rush of possibly colliding or you kept them wide open to experience the thrill of losing focus.

Spinning and spinning. Faster. Now you’ve opened your eyes and continued spinning for a few more seconds.

Unable to maintain your balance, you fell to the ground and stared up at the sky - waiting for your …

Emergency Management & Homeland Security In Higher Education: The Critical Need For Standardized Curriculum, Redd R.J.G Branner

Learning Showcase 2014

Over the past few decades, higher education has become an important factor in advancing organizations, as well as individuals advancing within their organization. There are many staple programs in higher education such as business administration, management and organizational behavior. These standardized programs have often been used by public servants to advance their careers. Public servants such as law enforcement officers and firefighters receive a more beneficial education attaining degrees designed specifically for their disciplines. Juvenile Justice Education For At-Risk High School Youth, Karen Miner-Romanoff Nov 2014

Juvenile Justice Education For At-Risk High School Youth, Karen Miner-Romanoff

Learning Showcase 2014

Research has shown that current legal policies of transfer of juveniles to adult court, harsh sentences, and intimidating educational programs do not 5 deter youthful crime. This study reports on a nonconfrontational pilot education program in the US juvenile justice system. In three urban high schools, an eight-week researcher-designed curriculum was delivered to three intervention classes totaling 125 at-risk students and three control classes totaling 100 at-risk students. Teachers in both groups administered 10 pretest and posttest surveys. Descriptive statistics showed substantial knowledge gains for the intervention group, from 14.2 to 35.7% in all subdomains, and −7.2 to 21.4% gains …

The Value Of The Franklin University Nationwide Library, David Mignerey, Tiffany Lipstreu, Julie Blake, Carmen Byg, Alyssa Darden, Kristi Lobrano 9476223, Brandon Houseman, Luke Mccash

Learning Showcase 2014

The Franklin University Nationwide Library (FUNL) has long been considered a significant contributing resource to our university community. Yet, in spite of our high level of professional competence and credibility, we are reticent to “tell our story” or to promote to others the list of services we provide. This reluctance is rooted in the professional academic preparation and service ethic that characterizes librarianship.

Compelling contemporary trends in higher education mandate that all academic programs provide robust performance evaluation and verified and validated measures of Return on Investment (ROI). ROI is a technique for quantifying the extent to which investment in …

2014 Program, Office Of Academic Affairs Oct 2014

2014 Program, Office Of Academic Affairs

Programs

At its best, a university is a collection of individuals ‐‐ students and faculty ‐‐ focused on learning and discovering new knowledge. For this goal to be realized, a critical element is having faculty members deeply engaged in such discovery within their disciplines. Scholarship, in the form of journal articles, book chapters, monographs and similar endeavors, creative activity which can take an even wider range of forms, and funded research which explores the boundaries of disciplines all contribute to such engagement. Through such participation, faculty members stay at the growing edges of their fields, and in so doing, they enrich …

Klipsun Magazine

From the moment you picked up this publication to the time you sat down to read it you have passed someone who has lost a loved one, has achieved a fitness goal, who balances a mental disorder, has aced a final and who is advocating for a cause.

It’s easy to become engrossed in your own story and not realize the thousands of stories similar to your own. We all each achieve, suffer, balance. Whether for humanity, animals, the Earth or ourselves, everyone is forging a path that has and will encounter barriers.

One of my most memorable barriers was …
