Innovations In Publicly Funded Workforce Training Programs, Chris Ackley

School of Professional Studies

This paper explores the aspects of the current public workforce system and detail persistent challenges as well as promising practices in the field from both Rhode Island and other locations. The author will present a series of recommendations for state and local leaders in the field as well as affiliated training providers and nonprofit practitioners. These proposals are designed to strengthen the overall system and create more opportunity for upward mobility, especially among individuals who have historically not had equitable access to postsecondary educational attainment which provides access to economic advancement.

Ouachita Reports 97% Career Outcomes Rate For Graduates In The Midst Of The Pandemic, Rachel Gaddis, Ouachita News Bureau

Ouachita Baptist University announced a 97% career outcomes rate for its 2020 graduating class, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. The percentage exceeds this year’s national average of 86% reported by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Also referred to as a placement rate, career outcomes rate is the percentage of graduates who are working full or part-time or attending graduate school within six months of graduation. Of Ouachita’s 97% career outcomes rate, 30% are currently continuing their education in graduate or professional school.

Inquiry into learning to teach pronunciation is a growing area within the second language teacher education research paradigm. To what extent this learning process extends into instructors' early years of teaching pronunciation has yet to be explored. This article is a response to this need by exploring the 3.5-year trajectory of five teachers learning to teach English pronunciation. The study was conducted in two phases. This research project was activated to explore trends emerging in the intersecting domains of employability, work-integrated learning, and career development learning. In late 2015, researchers, academics, and career practitioners from Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada gathered to attend an Employability Masterclass at the University of Wollongong. Attendees explored questions around employability in vocationally specific and non-vocationally specific degrees. The language and conversations highlighted the influence of global contexts on strategies and practices in transnational settings-specifically, how employability is defined and supported across the breadth of university activity.

Tourist guides are the essential interface between a tourism destination and its visitors, and are very much responsible for the overall impression of the destination and satisfaction offered. However, of the small amount of literature published, very few studies have asked tourist guides their views and opinions, or have built up a profile of the tourist guide. This paper attempts to redress the balance. This study, concentrating on professional tourist guides in Dublin, Ireland.

Assisting High School Students With Career Indecision Using A Shortened Form Of The Career Construction Interview, Mark C. Rehfuss, Pamela H. Sickinger

A shortened form of the Career Construction Interview (CCI) was used to help high school students struggling with the career decision making process. The shortened instrument is described, as well as, its use with eleventh grade high school students who had low levels of career concern and career curiosity. Students who completed the exercise reported several themes that are introduced and discussed in the article. These themes reflected that the intervention was helpful and facilitated student self understanding and career exploration. Practical applications for school counselors are discussed.
