The purpose of this thesis is to create an awareness among secondary and post-secondary instructors as to the student’s preparation in high school Chemistry I and the student’s readiness for General Chemistry I in college for a tristate area consisting of Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Student preparation in this research included chemistry I course prerequisites, high school chemistry teacher qualifications including preparation, and student exposure to rigorous science and math course patterns in high school as these relate to college readiness.

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of instructional methods utilized in community colleges in the State of Kansas as compared to a random sampling of secondary schools in Southeastern Kansas. Also included in the study was an analysis of word processing courses currently offered with respect to software packages being taught. In addition, change in enrollment and if general education courses included a course in word processing were also studied.

The purpose of this study is to determine the predictive value of longhand penmanship for success in Gregg Shorthand writing. The longhand tests consisted of copying the first four sentences of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address; the shorthand specimens were obtained from copying the entire Address. The rating scale selected for classifying longhand samples was the Ayres Handwriting Scale by Leonard P. Ayres, while the shorthand specimens were rated by Hoke’s Shorthand Penmanship Scale. This study was made to determine the present status of the dictation and transcription phases of shorthand in the public supported high schools in Kansas. In collecting the data necessary for the study, check lists were mailed to 69 public supported high schools; these were the Class A high schools in Kansas having an enrollment of 250 or more. The findings from the study show that approximately one-half of the schools approve of dictation and transcription as a separate course; however, only one school stated that dictation and transcription are offered as a separate course.
