Exploring The Relationship Between College Mathematics Remediation Status And Continued Persistence In Mathematics Of Community College Students, Morvarid Javadi Pourhassan Dec 2022

Exploring The Relationship Between College Mathematics Remediation Status And Continued Persistence In Mathematics Of Community College Students, Morvarid Javadi Pourhassan

Doctor of Education (EdD)

This study analyzed the relationship between community college students’ math remediation status and their continued persistence in math. Continued persistence outcomes included college math course completion, seeking a STEM degree pathway, degree attainment (STEM or any degree), and degree completion time (STEM or any degree). Demographic variables and math-placement- level were investigated as predictors. The study used secondary data from students enrolled in math courses at a large Pacific Northwest college between Fall 2016 and Fall 2019. Exploratory data analysis, logistic regression, and chi-square were used to analyze the secondary data. The analysis found a statistically significant impact of age …

The Predictive Validity Of Mathematics Curriculum-Based Measurement On Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium Mathematics Scores, Lauren J. Merkel Mar 2019

The Predictive Validity Of Mathematics Curriculum-Based Measurement On Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium Mathematics Scores, Lauren J. Merkel

Doctor of Education (EdD)

The purpose of this study was to examine the predicative validity of computation curriculumbased measurement (CBM) on mathematics Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium scores (SBAC). This study looked at one cohort consisting of 2,741 participants in third, fourth, and fifth grade during the 2017-2018 school year in one school district in Oregon. This study used a hierarchical multiple regression to examine the relationship between CBM and mathematics SBAC. Additionally, this study looked at the extent to which gender, ethnicity, special education status (SPED) and English language learner (ELL) status interacted with CBM scores to predict end-of-year mathematics SBAC scores. The findings …

Teacher Characteristics And Student Achievement In Mathematics In International Schools, Michael Arcidiacono Apr 2017

Teacher Characteristics And Student Achievement In Mathematics In International Schools, Michael Arcidiacono

Doctor of Education (EdD)

This study explored the relationship between traditional measures of teacher status (experience, level of education and certification) and student achievement growth in mathematics in international schools in Brazil. These measures have been explored extensively in educational research in the United States. However, similar studies have not been conducted in international school settings. The literature review investigated the existing body of literature on teacher status as well as the nature of mathematics achievement in international schools and the rise in use of value-added models as a means of measuring growth. Multiple regression analysis was used to determine the impact of teacher …

The Relationship Between Double Dosing And Middle School Math Student Achievement, Jon Franco Jan 2013

The Relationship Between Double Dosing And Middle School Math Student Achievement, Jon Franco

Doctor of Education (EdD)

This study examined the following research question: Is there a significant difference in math performance between the total sample of below grade level 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students engaged in double dosing and the sample of below grade level 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students not engaged in double dosing? Double dosing means pulling struggling students from elective classes during the school day in favor of an extra remediation class generally in the areas of reading, writing and math. The practice of double dosing is more prevalent within the elementary schools; however, as a result of the high stakes …
