The purpose of this project was to write a list of instructional objectives for a one semester introductory aerospace course at the junior high level. The objectives would be classified by topic for the aerospace class or for interdisciplinary use by teachers in other subject areas. While not all-encompassing, the list would be broad enough to allow some selection by individual teachers in developing their own programs.

The writer of this project was in a fifth grade teaching position beginning Fall, 1974, in Lacey, Washington. The writer taught thirty students in a self-contained classroom situation. The purpose of this individualized study was to develop a general framework and assemble some specific materials which would aid others in starting and developing a program in model rocketry in an orderly and logical manner.

The purposes of this study were: (1) to survey the incidence of aerospace education in grades nine through twelve of Washington State schools, (2) to discover what courses and units include such education in the curriculum, (3) to determine who the teachers are, and the nature of their preparation, (4) to gain a description of what kind of education is attempted under this heading, and (5) to discover what the opportunities are for expanded aerospace education within the schools surveyed.
