Hands-On 3d Printed Dynamics Activities, Dakota Baker, Jacob Lindberg, Andrew Meyenberg, Junnior Rodriguez Jun 2021

Hands-On 3d Printed Dynamics Activities, Dakota Baker, Jacob Lindberg, Andrew Meyenberg, Junnior Rodriguez

Mechanical Engineering

The advancement of 3D printing has allowed everyday individuals to rapid prototype and manufacture in a more efficient, cost-effective, and timely manner. This has paved the way for a more adaptable educational model, by allowing instructors to easily access alternative instruments for teaching. By providing students with tangible tools, they will better be able to grasp complex principles. Dynamics professors need a way in which they can easily access these academic tools, transport them to and from class, and teach multiple dynamics principles through variations of a single 3D printed kit. Interviews with professors and students were conducted to gain …

Lessons Learned In Designing Active Learning Modules For The Stem Classroom, Anna M. Christianson Jan 2021

Lessons Learned In Designing Active Learning Modules For The Stem Classroom, Anna M. Christianson

Pedagogicon Conference Proceedings

For students to become real partners in their education, they must shift from a model of passive absorption of knowledge to one of active participation in constructing knowledge. To encourage this shift, I have designed a variety of active learning modules for my introductory chemistry classes, from short participation polls to full-length case studies. When well-implemented, in-class activities can be a valuable experience for students to practice applying their knowledge with instructor guidance. In this report, I will share both successes and challenges encountered in designing student-friendly active learning modules in an introductory science course.

An Analysis Of The Palestinian Old And New Third Grade Science Textbooks' Activities, Marwan Abualrob Nov 2020

An Analysis Of The Palestinian Old And New Third Grade Science Textbooks' Activities, Marwan Abualrob

Journal of the Arab American University مجلة الجامعة العربية الامريكية للبحوث

This study aimed to identify the differences between the Palestinian old and new Third Grade Science Textbooks' activities. Therefore, the study raised the following main question: Are there any significant differences between the activities of the old Third Grade Science textbooks and those of the new Science Textbooks? To answer this question, a content analysis was conducted to the textbooks based on well-designed, reliable and credible 25 criteria and the interview with the 14 female and male science teachers and the three focus groups , who teach science for the third grade. Consequently, it was found out that the new …

Mathamigos: A Community Mathematics Initiative, James C. Taylor, Delara Sharma, Shannon Rogers Aug 2019

Mathamigos: A Community Mathematics Initiative, James C. Taylor, Delara Sharma, Shannon Rogers

Journal of Math Circles

We present a broad, and we think novel, community mathematics initiative in its early stages in Santa Fe, New Mexico. At every level, the program embraces community-wide collaboration—from the leadership team, to the elements of the mathematics being implemented (primarily math circles and the Global Math Project’s Exploding Dots), to the funding model. Our MathAmigos program falls within two categories of math circle-related programs: outreach and professional development (PD). In outreach, we work with the Santa Fe Public School district (administration, teachers, students, and parents) and the City of Santa Fe government (our funders via a two-year contract) in …

Project-Based High School Science Activities, Raymond Lynn Harris Jan 2003

Project-Based High School Science Activities, Raymond Lynn Harris

All Graduate Projects

The development of project-based science activities and assessment rubrics are presented. A total of fifteen different science projects are presented for use in the high school science classroom. The activities are complete with lesson plans, design lessons, overviews of materials and follow up assessments. The activities are designed to combine essential academic learning requirements with real-world applications and can be applicable to a wide variety of concepts. The development of these activities is supported by the literature review as well as the use in the author's classroom.

Supplimental Activities/Lesson Plans For General Math, Jacklyn Sue Long

All Graduate Projects

The purpose of the project was to develop supplemental activities/lesson plans for ninth grade general mathematics. The activities/lesson plans make use of manipulatives, cooperative learning and real life situations. Some of the activities/ lesson plans are developed into projects.

The Enhancement Of Earth Science Laboratories And Activities Through Inquiry, Discovery And Hands-On Methods, Diane Hinchliff Hesse Jan 1990

The Enhancement Of Earth Science Laboratories And Activities Through Inquiry, Discovery And Hands-On Methods, Diane Hinchliff Hesse

All Graduate Projects

The central objective of this project is to enhance the middle school eighthgrade Earth Science curriculum by developing or adapting existing laboratory activities to model hands-on, inquiry, and discovery learning methods. These laboratory activities are designed to encourage independent student-centered learning as opposed to teacher-centered and directed activities.

The project also explored the nature of the science laboratory as it exists in classrooms today and how it can be improved through an understanding of the nature and process of science.
