In the golden age of radio, listeners were told that "only The Shadow knows." 1.,amont Cranston, better known as The Shadow, was the enlightened character with all of the answers to solve repeated mysteries. The Shadow is no longer with us, but the use of shadow puppetry in the elementary classroom can help solve mysteries and bring "life" to the study of light and shadow. Every day, the earth is bombarded by an estimated 100 tons of interplanetary debris. Most of this is produced by micrometeorites that vaporize high in the atmosphere and slowly settle to earth as a fine dust. Only a rare once-a-day small meteorite survives its passage through the atmosphere to impact the earth. Unfortunately, the vast majority of these go undetected or undiscovered. As a result, it is an important event when a sizable meteorite fall occurs which is well observed and documented. Interestingly, Iowa appears to have been blessed with an inordinate number of these falls within recorded history. In …

Teaching for Thinking: Creativity in the Classroom is a new video series in teaching/professional development designed to help teachers produce more creative student thinking. This new series from the Agency for Instructional Technology, which both explores theory and investigates classroom practice, is aimed at middle-school and high-school teachers of all subjects. Each of the twelve 30-minute programs features an interview with a guest expert and several visits to actual classrooms where master teachers employ specific creativity-enhancing techniques.

With only two exceptions, no significant differences are found · the profiles of most effective and least effective teachers. Druva and Anderson (1983) recently reported the results of a meta analysis of significant research in science teacher education. Their findings suggest that most factors believed to impact the teaching performance of science instructors do not, in fact, play a very important role. Despite these findings, many science educators continue to accept the same old assumptions and beliefs concerning what is needed to improve science teacher education programs.
