Faith and learning integration can take various forms for different faculty members, but I believe it helps to do it regularly (at least once per week) by giving students a chance to discuss in groups and then write about their own ideas. On Monday, I typically pick a verse that relates to the week’s topics. I write the verse on the board before students arrive, along with a discussion question, and then show a YouTube video related to the verse. I have students briefly discuss the question in groups, and they can memorize the verses for bonus points on quizzes. …

Celebration of Scholarship 2021

This year's program includes research supported by internal funding from the Faculty Mentored Undergraduate Scholarship (FMUS) program or the Women's Giving Circle (WGC), as well as work produced through external funding or during capstone projects. The work presented here is a tangible demonstration of Jesus's admonition from Matthew 22:37 to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." Even during a year filled with uncertainty and upheaval, our faculty and students together have fostered a community of intellectual, faith-based learning, and for that we are thankful.

Even The Parrot And World War Ii: How Wartime Britain Influenced Dorothy L. Sayers’S 1944 Book For “Enlightened Children”, Rachel L. Knight

“‘Even the Parrot,’ said my Nurse, severely, ‘knows better than to eat the peel.’” In this slim volume, Dorothy L. Sayers uses the structure of instructional children’s literature to satirically discuss World War II. Nurse Nature’s lessons to her two charges about the canary, the cat, the bee-hive, the boa-constrictor, and the rabbit are filled to the brim with references to wartime life. From mentions of Hitler to a discussion on post-war construction, Sayers uses Even the Parrot to examine wartime in a different way than her previous World War II writings.
