Improving The High School And College Classroom Experience For Learners With Refugee Status: Theory, Practice, And Change., Kayte Thomas, Sara-Jean Lipmen

Journal of Applied Disciplines

Refugee populations are increasing globally, and children make up more than fifty percent of those displaced. Unique experiences that come with forced migration including fragmented education, trauma, family separation, grief, and adverse other effects can impact learning in the classroom for refugee students. Existing data indicates that schools lack sufficient protocols to meet the needs of students with refugee status who consistently face risks associated with ill-prepared learning environments, and therefore must rethink possibilities to address this. Background: Since its founding in 1969, Governors State University Faculty and staff have created new knowledge and disseminated research results, impacting knowledge globally.

Objective: This study seeks to measure the impact of GSU faculty and staff research. Who are the most productive authors, and what are the top most cited publications? What is GSU's impact on our region, state, and beyond?

Higher education is experiencing a decline in institutional resources, a change in student demographics, and a shift in teacher-to-student-centered learning. The impact of technology on faculty roles and the paradigm shift from the industrial age to the technological age has had a major influence on faculty and online teaching. This quantitative study was based on faculty technology experience, faculty’s attitude toward online teaching, the perceived quality of online teaching, and the institutional challenges; and how they impact faculty teaching modalities. Math anxiety is a significant problem among both traditional and adult students attending community colleges. The purpose of this study is to examine effective strategies for overcoming math anxiety in community colleges. The research question for this study was: What tools are community colleges using to help developmental math students overcome math anxiety? A qualitative systematic review of literature was used to answer the research question. The research determined various factors contributed to the development of math anxiety, which is a condition capable of persisting throughout an individual’s life.
