Modeling Collaborative Research Practices With Zotero, Julian Kilker

The early stages of research when students explore topics and evaluate resources are critical. Yet researchers can be overwhelmed by evaluating sources, organizing resources and notes, and working with collaborators. During these stages it is particularly important to model meaningful research relationships to support student success. I address these challenges by having students explore Zotero, a free “research assistant” application and web portal, as they work on structured research assignments. "The Leatherby Libraries at Chapman University started its research prize contest for undergraduate students in 2007. Having reached the tenth anniversary of the contest, we are well positioned to reflect on how the contest has changed in concert with new ways of inquiry and information creation and on its role in supporting and honoring student research. This bibliography brings together the writings of Vincent J. Lapomarda, S.J. from his fifty years in academia serving as a professor of history at the College of the Holy Cross. While the main focus of this bibliography is his years as a college professor, it does not exclude unpublished writings from graduate school nor published articles before his career as a professor began. The whole, or as much of it as possible, is a record of how one historian has gone about searching for the sources, evaluating these sources and writing his own histories.

Every two years, the ACRL Research Planning and Review Committee releases an environmental scan of higher education, including developments with the potential for continuing impact on academic libraries. The 2015 environmental scan provides a broad review of the current higher education landscape, with special focus on the state of academic and research libraries. The document builds on earlier ACRL reports, including the Top Trends in Academic Libraries. The 2015 environmental scan is freely available on the ACRL website (PDF). This presentation highlights key elements of the 2015 environmental scan.
