For many years, the role of the pastor's wife has been an emerging role in American religious history (Sweet, 1983). While on their journey in building and nurturing their relationship with God, supporting their husbands, families, congregations, and communities, pastors' wives have experienced joys and blessings as well as challenges and issues. A tremendous joy for some pastors' wives has been the privilege, the opportunity, and the honor to serve, minister to, assist and care for others. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact an inpatient substance abuse counselors' spiritual well-being had on chemically dependent patients' spiritual well-being over the course of two weeks in treatment.;Raymond Paloutzian and Craig Ellison developed the Spiritual Well-Being Scale which was utilized in this study along with the Rokeach Value Survey, the Personal Orientation Inventory, and the Profile of Adaptation to Life Scale. Pre and Post test packets containing the Spiritual Well-Being Scale and the Profile of Adaptation to Life Scale were administered to one hundred ten inpatient alcohol and drug patients. The purpose of this interview based qualitative study was to explore the influence that a plurality of social contexts, represented through United Methodist congregations in the Virginia Conference, have on the formation of ministers' occupational activities.;The study used a typology developed by Larry Blazer (1987) to identify the occupational activities practiced by parish ministers. The investigation weighted clergy's professional practice using Judith Hackman's (1985) concepts of power and centrality in her study institutions of higher education's budgeting process. Congregational representatives identified occupational activities that were central and peripheral to their congregation's mission. As fundamentalist-conservatives pressed their agenda in Southern Baptist Convention life, and, in particular, as they assumed a majority on the board of trustees of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina, the academic freedom of the Southeastern faculty became an issue. Concerns enunciated by Robert M. MacIver (1955) provide reference points in responding to the inquiry: "Was the academic freedom of the faculty violated at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary?" While a prologue and epilogue are offered, the study parameters of the Southeastern Seminary experience are 1979 to 1989. The study concludes that academic freedom was compromised in this …

The purpose of this study was to investigate the sex-trait stereotype church lay people had of women clergy. Two groups of lay people were studied, those who had and had not had a woman clergy as either pastor or assistant pastor of a church to which they belonged. The purpose of this study was to develop an Exceptional Brethren Ministers Scale for the California Psychological Inventory. This scale was designed to differentiate between effective and ineffective parish pastors in the Church of the Brethren.;The procedure involved the identification of two groups of parish clergy in the Church of the Brethren. These groups were formulated using a Pastoral Effectivenes Rating Form, (PERF). A list containing 160 items was circulated among a group of experts in ministry in the Church of the Brethren for their appraisal. The purpose of this study was to trace the history of governance of Lee College, Cleveland, Tennessee, considering the influence of pentecostalism, particularly as stressed by its sponsoring denomination, the Church of God. Consideration was given to possible accommodations and complex influences which impacted on the pentecostal position of the College, differentiating secular/academic standards from clearly pentecostal standards.;It was hypothesized that Lee College would be highly influenced by the conservative pentecostalism of the Church of God that the decision-making process would reflect this influence.
