In this paper I have explored the importance of community service experiences and ultimately created a guide for implementing a high quality and meaningful community service program at the high school level. This paper begins with an initial discussion of my personal experiences in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, when I discovered firsthand the importance of personal reflection and sharing. I have defined community as a group of people with common place and common interest. Community service is an action within the community that betters the community in some way. This research project explores mothers of children with autism as social actors. I conducted the research at Casa da Esperança, which is school and therapy intstituion, and social organization, for autistics in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. A group of mothers founded Casa da Esperança based on a policy of inclusiveness towards autistics and their families. Casa da Esperança’s structure reflects its collective and communal philosophy, as demonstrated by the family program. Speaking Out: The Responsibilities Of Management Intellectuals: A Survey, Stephen Dunne, Stefano Harney, Martin Parker

This article discusses our analysis of over 2,000 articles publishedwithin 20 top business and management journals. The article empirically demonstrates how little attention is being paid by the work published within these journals to contemporary political issues across the globe. We also demonstrate the extent to which the same is true of ‘critical’ journals such as Organization. To this end we argue that mass scholarly ranking mechanisms, such as the British Research Assessment Exercise (RAE),create a general state of myopia on the part of business and management scholars towards a variety of political issues, even making a virtue out of …
