Applying Conditional Distributions To Individuals: Using Latent Variable Models, Feng Ji
Applying Conditional Distributions To Individuals: Using Latent Variable Models, Feng Ji
Theses and Dissertations
This study proposes a new method to interpret individual results of psychological test batteries. The Mahalanobis distance is a commonly-used measure of how unusual an individual’s profile of scores is compared to a population of score profiles. In models in which there is a set of predictors and a set of dependent variables (e.g., cognitive abilities predicting academic abilities), it is useful to distinguish between a profile of dependent scores that is unusual because its profile of predictor scores is unusual and a profile of dependent scores that is unusual even after controlling for the predictors. The conditional Mahalanobis distance …
Assessing And Expanding Extracurricular Cybersecurity Youth Activities' Impact On Career Interest, Michael H. Dunn
Assessing And Expanding Extracurricular Cybersecurity Youth Activities' Impact On Career Interest, Michael H. Dunn
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis assesses and expands the potential of extracurricular activities to address the shortage of cybersecurity workers by increasing secondary school students’ interest in these careers. Competitions and badges, two forms of gamification often applied in extracurricular educational activities, have potential to improve motivation and increase interest in related careers, but are significantly understudied in the context of cybersecurity activities. CyberPatriot is the largest cybersecurity competition in the United States for secondary school students. Impact on participants’ career interests is assessed by analyzing responses to recent surveys conducted by the competition organizers. Analysis demonstrates significantly increased interest in cybersecurity in …
Evaluation Of A Climate Change Training Program For Local Government Employees, Clara Kashar
Evaluation Of A Climate Change Training Program For Local Government Employees, Clara Kashar
Theses and Dissertations
A local government in South Florida launched a training program to improve employee engagement on climate change using best practices in adult learning and climate communication to bridge the gap between climate science and action in government operations. The purpose of this program evaluation was to determine whether that climate change development and training program for local government employees met its stated goals and objectives. This evaluation blended a component of Stufflebeam’s Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) model with Kirpatrick’s Four Levels model. To conduct the evaluation, the researcher used a mixed methods approach for analyzing both quantitative and qualitative …
