Lessons In Process: Similarities Between Scientific And Artistic Creative Practice, Emily Prengaman

The STEAM Journal

This paper describes the similarities between scientific and artistic processes and explains why both are valuable in the STEAM classroom. This is important because students who understand that struggle is an inherent part of process develop growth mindsets and become better learners. The paper explores the connections between STEM and art. STEAM educators use the experiences of great scientists and artists, along with students personal experiences working through creative process to guide students to understand that learning is an experience. The best learning happens when we persist through challenges.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkontekstualisasikan pemikiran dua tokoh di abad 19 tentang pendidikan dan kebudayaan serta menemukan relevansi pemikiran tersebut dengan kompetensi peserta didik di abad 21. Penelitian ini merupakan kajian studi pustaka dengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis isi. Data berupa sumber primer dan sekunder. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik library research. Data dianalisis secara kualitatif dengan pendekatan induktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsep pemikiran kedua tokoh saling berkaitan khususnya tentang empat poin pokok, yaitu tujuan pendidikan, fungsi pendidikan, proses pendidikan, dan peran pendidik. Diasporic relocation and resettlement ideally generate new experiences for diasporic communities and their host societies. At times, host societies (in general) and education (in concomitance) could remain impervious towards the unique cultural practices of diasporic communities, fostering a cultural gap. Such gaps may result in conflicts that impact social engagement, including education, posing cultural and educational challenges for diasporic people. Drawing inspiration from feminist and indigenous thought, the narratives of ecology shared here center the place of emotions, experience, memory and spiritual intimacy, offering one means of decolonizing environmental studies and expanding our understanding of ‘environmental consciousness’. While research has been conducted on social work graduates’ views of their readiness and preparedness for practice, the views of social care workers have not been specifically researched. This paper reports on the views of social care graduates in Ireland of how ready they are to join the workforce and how their educational programme has prepared them. Two semi-structured interviews were conducted with the same participants. The first was at the end of their final year in college and the second between 9 and 12 months later when they were in employment. Through close study of St. Christopher’s School—an all-boys’ school in Richmond, Virginia—during its first fifty years, this thesis historicizes upper-class white masculinity in Virginia during the first half of the twentieth century. The school’s founder, Churchill Gibson Chamberlayne, linked the Lost Cause myth with other movements in education at the time, especially Muscular Christianity and the country day school movement. By looking at how students and administrators at St. Christopher’s made and remade traditions surrounding notions of masculinity, in addition to more muted manifestations of gender at the school, illuminate the existence of a gender hierarchy even before gender integration. …

Many postsecondary institutions face challenges when veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or traumatic brain injury (TBI) enroll in college and become student-veterans. Staff and faculty may need to better understand how to accommodate these student-veterans as they transition from military to student life. The purpose of this study was to explore the perspectives of 3 groups at a Texas community college regarding classroom accommodations for student-veterans with PTSD or TBI: (a) student-veterans with PTSD or TBI, (b) the faculty, and (c) the disability counselors.
