The Adirondack Park is a unique and extraordinary region of New York State that offers its citizens a chance to be part of a naturally diverse, though historically difficult, ecological phenomena (i.e. man and nature living together). There are twelve counties and 45 school districts within the Adirondack Park "Blue Line" boundary. This is less than 7% of the total amount of school districts in the state of New York. This historical-descriptive study examined Southern Appalachian settlement schools as early initiators of integrated health and social services with education from the 1900s through the 1970s. Three schools were studied: Hindman Settlement School (KY), Pine Mountain Settlement School (KY) and Crossnore School, Inc. (NC). The purpose of the study was to determine the type and extent of services provided, the relationship of the settlement schools with their respective county public school system, and the transfer, if any, of integrated services from the settlement schools to public schools as the public schools took over educational responsibilities once offered by the settlement schools. …

Perceptions Of Gender Bias In Vocational Training At An Employment Service Organization In Central Virginia, Dana Miller

This was a qualitative study conducted at an employment service organization in Central Virginia. The researcher examined.supervisor for perceptions of gender bias on the vocational training of client employees, through the use of interviews and observation. Four interviews were conducted with supervisors at the employment service organization. Results indicated three themes: gender roles are changing so no gender bias exists, placed by interest into jobs, and no physical strength requirement. Interrater reliability was calculated by two experts. The policy manual for the employment service organization was examined for gender specific vocational training procedures. The purpose of this study was to develop a School-to-Work transition curriculum to assist out-of-school youth in grades 6-12 formulate career pathways at Yakima Valley Opportunities Industrialization Center alternative schools, Yakima, Washington. To accomplish this goal, current research and literature on School-to-Work curriculum models, programs and certificate of mastery were reviewed. Additionally, selected materials were obtained from institutions across the United States with model School-to-Work curricula/programs in action.

This study focused on student's attitude to using the Internet at school. A questionnaire (the School Internet Attitude questionnaire) measuring student attitude to using the Internet at school incorporating three dimensions (cognitive, behavioural and affective) was administered twice to a sample of 64 Year 12 students from a Perth Metropolitan Independent school. The questionnaire was administered before and after a six lesson 'exposure' (the limited classroom exposure) to the Internet. Pre and post test attitude measures of all students were compared using dependent sample t_ test to determine if there were significant differences in student's attitude after the limited classroom …
