Excelsior: Leadership in Teaching and Learning
Equity in the education profession is of grave importance. The current socio-political conditions have elevated matters of social and racial justice in society broadly. As the number of students attending America’s P-12 schools has grown more diverse across racial and ethnic groups, racial parity within the teacher workforce continues to lag. Many stratagems have been employed to expand teacher diversity across the nation with varying effects. We explore the historical and contemporary contexts of teacher diversity and outline considerations to advance racial parity in the teacher workforce beginning with preparation. The second half of the project is a survey study of parents of preschoolers to investigate how preschool websites influence parents’ preschool selection. This survey included a brief look at parent priorities, website usage, and social media considerations. The survey data established the importance of a functional, updated …

Renée Crown University Honors Thesis Projects - All
The objectives of this study are to assess the meaning of “disability” through etic and emic frameworks, to bring awareness to effects that negative social constructions have on individuals with disabilities’ self-worth, and to find more accommodating approaches to not only help individuals with disabilities grow in inclusive classrooms, but to also help them apply confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills to their community after the age of 21 in the United States. Institute for Veterans and Military Families
This study found that the transfer of skills gained through military training was not statistically different from skills related to most forms of non-military training. In practice, for the transitioning service-member, this research highlights the importance of seeking and cultivating opportunities to leverage knowledge, skills, and abilities developed as a result of military training and experience. In policy, individuals developing military training programs should purposefully focus on curriculum development in a way that makes the linkages between learned skills and the civilian labor market clear and explicit. Suggestions for future study include considering and investigating whether or not the findings …
