Background – In 2017 the School of Medicine Fremantle (SoMF) began moving towards a paradigm shift to optimise the learning and decision functions of assessments.
Methods – Consistent with best practice of first doing, then watching and thinking, a multi-year (2017 – 2020) action research project has been in place alongside the staged roll-out of programmatic assessment for learning (PA) framework in the SoMF since 2017. Assessing Curriculum For College Success, Oscar T. Mcknight, Rod Lake, Mark Fortner, David Silverberg, Eugene Linton

Massillon City Schools and Ashland University assessed a project designed to strengthen the curriculum and improve student learning potential. Results suggest that assessing student learning potential can predict standardized testing outcomes (i.e., ACT/SAT scores) and college success (Entrance/Graduation). Incorporated are suggestions for implementing a standards-based curriculum and how-to predicting student outcomes using the Student Success Survey. In this time of often precarious funding at many colleges and universities, any case that can be made to illustrate how a department strategically fits into the overall university mission is not only worth merit, but an essential survival technique. This “strategic credibility” within the university is a vital form of currency in determining institution-wide resources prioritization, collaboration opportunities between organizational units, and overall direction of departments.
