Global Engagement Model For Land-Grant Universities, A Grounded Theory., Lorena Ivonne Ballester
Global Engagement Model For Land-Grant Universities, A Grounded Theory., Lorena Ivonne Ballester
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
The purpose of this study is to examine how land-grant universities engage with the public in the era of globalization; to explain the institutionalization of engagement processes accounting for the global context; and, to integrate this analysis into a Global Engagement Model for Land-Grant Universities (GEM) implementing a grounded theory research methodology.
GEM’s foundation is both theoretical and empirical. Applying the intensity sampling method, the universities selected for the empirical base were: The University of California, Davis, Michigan State University, and The Pennsylvania State University. Rather than an exact representation of individual universities’ engagement models, the model is the researcher’s …
“The Illusion Of Collaboration”: An Integrated Examination Of The Antecedents, Processes, And Consequences Of Online Group Work, Jill Cathleen Woods
“The Illusion Of Collaboration”: An Integrated Examination Of The Antecedents, Processes, And Consequences Of Online Group Work, Jill Cathleen Woods
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
Computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) presents postsecondary educators with a conundrum: how to design and support small-group activities without stifling deep and meaningful learning. The literature indicates that students are not consistently practicing higher-order cognitive activities, educators are not reliably designing or facilitating them, and/or researchers are not locating or identifying them where they are occurring. The aim of this dissertation is to explore these deficits by identifying the antecedent conditions that most affect collaboration. Specifically, I answer the question, how do learner’s prior knowledge, characteristics, and experiences manifest in their collaborative processes. Addressing a gap in the literature, this study …
Touching Light: A Framework For The Facilitation Of Music-Making In Mixed Reality, Ian Thomas Riley
Touching Light: A Framework For The Facilitation Of Music-Making In Mixed Reality, Ian Thomas Riley
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
Drawing upon the historical development of analog and digital technologies alongside the proliferation of computer-assisted performance practices, this research seeks to develop a framework for integrating Mixed Reality applications to live musical performance, specifically through the creation of a Microsoft HoloLens 2 Mixed Reality application in order to facilitate a live performance of an original musical composition for percussion and real-time Mixed Reality environment. Mixed Reality enables a performer to interact with virtual (holograms, VSTs, etc.) and physical (vibraphone, tuned drums, microphones, etc.) objects simultaneously. Tandem to the development of the conceptual framework was the composition of an original score …
The Impacts Of An Entrepreneurial Course On Secondary Students' Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy And Entrepreneurial Intentions, Toi E. Hershman
The Impacts Of An Entrepreneurial Course On Secondary Students' Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy And Entrepreneurial Intentions, Toi E. Hershman
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
There is considerable agreement that promoting entrepreneurship stimulates economic development and job creation, which helps maintain a country’s economic competitiveness. Entrepreneurship education is a key to increasing the likelihood of potential entrepreneurs. While substantial research has documented strategies for enhancing students' entrepreneurial mindset and building entrepreneurial skills in higher education, entrepreneurship is rarely incorporated into or studied in secondary education. This mixed-method study examined the impact of an online ten-lesson entrepreneurship course on secondary students' entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intentions. Students took a pre-survey that measured their entrepreneurial self-efficacy and intentions before the course and a post-survey upon completing the …
Examining Changes In Learning And Engagement Of Higher Education Students In A Fully Online Flipped Learning Distance Education Classroom, James David Riel
Examining Changes In Learning And Engagement Of Higher Education Students In A Fully Online Flipped Learning Distance Education Classroom, James David Riel
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
The challenge of implementing effective online distance education courses for academics and institutions is a centuries-old task. We can look across early developments in the 18th century with the creation and delivery of correspondence courses; into the 20th century with teaching and learning across analog methods such as audio and video; and now in the current era of digitized mechanisms that enable the online classroom. This includes advances in internet technologies and computing abilities that are the empowering the backbone processes, bridging connectivity between the student and the instructor. As society has trended toward massive increases in online …
The Effect Of Blended Learning On Language Proficiency Of An Efl Class: An Empirical Study, Jamile Sulam Tango Rojas
The Effect Of Blended Learning On Language Proficiency Of An Efl Class: An Empirical Study, Jamile Sulam Tango Rojas
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
The combination of online learning and face-to-face lessons have become a relevant learning model in English Language Teaching in the last years. The goal of this research study was to investigate the integration of such a blended learning approach in an EFL class in Bolivia. The study was conducted at a binational language institution, and it focused on the effect of blended learning on the students’ overall language proficiency and each language skill individually. Data was collected via a proficiency pre-test at the beginning of the experiment, two quizzes during the module, and a final exam, all of them to …
A Delphi Study Exploring The Impact And Feasibility Of Entrepreneurial Initiatives In College/University Kinesiology Programs, Cory Breithoff
A Delphi Study Exploring The Impact And Feasibility Of Entrepreneurial Initiatives In College/University Kinesiology Programs, Cory Breithoff
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
As public revenue sources dwindle, and society urges institutions to freeze their ever-increasing tuition rates, universities must be creative to increase their internal revenue. While kinesiology programs have begun to discuss such methods, they must also evaluate what is feasible and financially impactful. The purpose of this study was to gain a consensus of opinion regarding the impact and feasibility of entrepreneurial initiatives in higher education and to generate a list of facilitators and barriers that may impact the implementation. A total of 20 expert panelists comprised of higher education kinesiology administrators participated in a two-round Modified Delphi study to …
The Impact Of Student Facilitation On Student Engagement In Asynchronous Online Discussion, Robin Bowen
The Impact Of Student Facilitation On Student Engagement In Asynchronous Online Discussion, Robin Bowen
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
Lack of engagement in asynchronous online discussion is a common issue due to insufficient participation, disinterest in discussion, superficial discussion, and the influence of peer behaviors. The purpose of this study was to enhance student engagement in asynchronous online discussion by using student-led discussion and peer assessment. A mixed methods design was utilized in this study to offset quantitative and qualitative research weaknesses and to draw on the strengths of both (Plano Clark & Creswell, 2008). The control group participated in the discussion managed by the instructor, who posted weekly discussion questions to a class discussion board and facilitated the …
