Nursing Students’ Perceptions Of Using Branching Simulation: A Qualitative Descriptive Study, Mohammad Rababa, Dania Bani-Hamad, Shatha Al-Sabbah
The Qualitative Report
Previous intervention studies have shown that branching simulation (BS) unfolds the complex multidimensional aspects of challenging health problems. The present study aimed to examine graduate nursing students’ perceptions of using BS in professional training. This study used a qualitative descriptive design with semi-structured interviews with a sample of 20 graduate nursing students. Four main themes emerged from the results: (a) BS as a support to students’ professional training, (b) BS leads to changes in clinical practice, (c) whether BS is a stressful learning experience, and (d) BS versus traditional lecturing. In the province of Quebec, the death of Joyce Echaquan has been a key lever for diverse health organizations and teaching institutions in order to take concrete actions against health inequities and systemic racism experienced by Indigenous people within the health care system. The author shares the teaching gifts she has received from Indigenous Knowledge Holders and through her experience of co-facilitating Indigenous led, land based, wellness-oriented field schools. It offers a way forward for nurse educators who are searching for ways to responsibly and meaningfully address colonial harms and actively engage in ethical, accountable and respectful relations with Indigenous People and Knowledges. Following cultural protocol, we asked two highly respected local Indigenous Knowledge holders and retired nurses to serve as Presiding Elders for the Bachelor of Nursing (BN) Curriculum Redesign Committee. It is critical that nursing education programs in Canada respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s call to develop a course about the documented impacts of Indigenous-specific racism on the health outcomes of Indigenous people. Initiatives such as San’yas Anti-racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Education, courses on trauma-informed care, and required Indigenous health and history classes in nursing programs are providing a solid beginning. Purpose: Becoming and being a nurse is vaguely conceptualized, so it is important for nurses to understand the defining attributes, antecedents, consequences, model cases, and empirical referents of professional identity with the aim of better understanding the process of its formation.
Method: Walker and Avant’s (2005) method is used to guide this concept analysis of professional identity.
Findings: The analysis indicated that formation of professional identity in nursing consists of three main themes: individual characteristics, becoming a nurse, and professional identity. Background: Post-secondary institutions do not adequately prepare future professionals to provide quality palliative care. Furthermore, the competencies necessary for interprofessional collaborative practice in home-based palliative care are poorly described in the scientific literature. A palliative care simulation involving standardized patients and paramedics would be a strategy to educate nursing students and nurse practitioner students who have little opportunity to experience interprofessional collaborative palliative care in the home.

Although positive learning outcomes have been documented for nursing students who participate in virtual simulation for community health nursing clinical education (Chircop & Cobbett, 2020), it is unknown whether learning outcomes of students using the same virtual simulation program are comparable across jurisdictions. Methods: Three editors conducted a similar keyword search in Pubmed, also adding manually curated articles. Focusing chiefly on clinical trials and other prospective research, we settled on a final 25 significant papers focusing on wellness in medical professionals to include in this review.

Introduction: For healthcare workers, the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in increased workload, work related stress and patient acuity potentially leading to burnout, secondary traumatic stress (STS), and sleep disruptions. This study aims to assess the prevalence of burnout and STS symptoms, as well as sleep disturbances among healthcare personnel working in the United States during the pandemic.
Methods: Healthcare workers from all disciplines and settings in the United States completed a cross-sectional survey about work and personal characteristics from January 20-March 1, 2021. Participants reported on symptoms of burnout, STS, and sleep disruptions.

The authors of this paper developed a CRAB (Cognitive Rehearsal to Address Bullying) Workshop, using Forum Theatre as an innovative pedagogical approach to explore the overly prevalent issue of bullying in nursing education. We designed two open-ended descriptive written surveys to obtain feedback from students on the efficacy of the workshop with respect to students’ ability to address bullying, and with respect to their capacity to engage in related embodied learning through Forum Theatre. In this discussion paper, we describe our experience completing the first year of the doctorate in nursing program at a large urban academic centre during the COVID-19 pandemic. We highlight the current nursing shortage and the importance of supporting all nursing students, including nurses in doctoral programs, towards successful graduation. We describe the development of a virtual community of practice incorporating five key strategies: Building community, fostering collaboration, strengthening connection, enhancing creativity, and promoting consistency. Pharmacogenetic testing is used to tailor medication recommendations based on an individual's genetic makeup. Increased precision in prescribing medication through the use of genetics leads to a reduction in adverse drug reactions resulting in decreased morbidity and mortality. Due to the noted benefits to patient health outcomes and reduction in healthcare costs, a growing number of Canadian health centers and community pharmacies are beginning to offer pharmacogenetic testing. Background: Vaccine hesitancy is a growing threat to public health worldwide. While COVID-19 vaccinations and vaccine hesitancy have dominated headlines recently, routine immunizations will continue to be an important focus both during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Nursing students represent the next generation of immunizers and health promoters; however, the vaccine knowledge and attitudes of this population are largely unknown.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess baccalaureate nursing students’ knowledge of, and attitudes toward, routine vaccinations. Students’ self-reported vaccination influences were also examined.
